I had booked this hotel based on pictures and reviews; both were far from the truth. The lobby was dirty with piles of stuff everywhere. The room was cold, noisy, stank of burnt paper, had decaying furniture and a foam-rubber mattress. We left. They tried to charge us for two nights; Agoda reduced that to one. The trip was rescued by a genuine hotel a few doors away.
We turned up and they’d double-booked our room so we had to wait around until they’d figured their cock-up out and then they ‘upgraded’ us whatever that was.
If it was an upgrade, what the hell was the room we were supposed to be in like? The room was dirty and had a weird smell. The TV didn’t work at all even though the guy spent about 30 minutes trying to fix it before giving up and just walking out without saying anything. The WiFi was broken when we arrived.
If it’s advertised as having it, and I pay for the room, I expect it to be as advertised and I expect the stuff to work.
We went downstairs and I put the key on the desk and said checkout and the owner/manager said absolutely nothing. She knew exactly what was up.
What the hell? Vietnamese Fawlty towers...
Been there a month ago for 5 nights. The hotel location is good, the room was just ok, no more, no less. First we arrived there, there were some problems with a/c, there was liquid dripping from it on our pillows, so we went to the reception and in 20 minutes the problem was sold, so it's great.
There is a window(standard double room) and it can be opened, but it's just about 30 santimeters between the window and the wall of the other building(that is usual for SouthEast Asia)
The staff is very friendly and very helpful! They arranged a tour to Halong bay for us(yes, the prices are not the cheapest in the city, but you should understand, that the prices that start from 25-29$ around the Old Quarter are the ones for the tour with the cheapest ferry and simpliest meal onboard(and anyways, the receptionists can offer you such cheap tours also)), and the other day we bought one-way tickets to Ninh Binh on the reception.
The breakfast was very simple, just scrambled eggs/pancakes/omelette,etc. with toasts, but as we realized later during our trip to Vietnam it was common in almost every budget hotel, so in general the stay was good and we didn't have any problems with it.
A little bit strange that they provide shampoo and such but not hand soap to wash your hands. The shower area was be stained dirty, from minerals in the water I think. No complimentary water. Small issues but I think if fixed it would make life easier for guests.
Staff are super helpful. Lovely to chat with and have good ideas for activities. Room was spacious, bed comfy, shower pressure was good. Good location to explore Old Town. Will be going back twice more and that is fine with us. They sell water at the hotel cheaper than you can get outside on the street, in the markets, etc.
Go see the show "My Village" if you can, very cool.
The rooms are basic..... no in room safe, very old fashioned fittings... needs money spending on it.....
But the staff are wonderful.... on top of their game, very pleasant, really hard working.
Excellent at organising tours and then the other staff know what is going on..... so they keep you informed
