Cannot fault the service levels we received in this hotel, especially in the public areas of the reception, lobby bar and breakfast room. The reception staff were always courteous and very helpful and the young girls working the lobby bar always had a smile.
The hotel itself is a bit dated and the facilities creak a little. The two glass domed lifts are great fun at first until you realise how small and inefficient they are and after a while you resort to the stairs, especially if you have to get down to the lobby at the same time that the Japanese and Koreans are checking out with all their suitcases blocking the lifts.
The hotel swimming pool is on the third floor but is an outside one and not practical when it rains (as it does frequently in this part of Vietnam). Also the hotel swimming puddle would be a better description.
The hotel Spa is not in the hotel but next door and isn’t actually part of the hotel but a separate private business, so you have to pay cash and cannot put any charges to your room. I can’t comment but according to my better half the manicure and pedicure are a waste of time, irrespective of how low cost they may be,
Our room was very spacious, especially as we had a family room with a king sized double bed and a queen sized single. Plenty of storage space and a wardrobe extension unit housing the tea/ coffee facilities, the fridge and the safe. But it was like stepping back in time decor wise. The furniture was all dark wood with white and cream walls and the bathroom the old Asian style creamy yellow colour with old style bath containing the shower head. Also a lack of power sockets meant we were having to fiddle behind the flat screen tele or pulling out the lamp plugs to be able to charge the mobile phones.
But in saying that the room was quiet, the beds comfortable and the Wi-Fi worked well in the room once you had logged onto the correct hub address for your part of the hotel. ( and there are several in use at the Mondial)
The breakfast room on the top floor is one of the highlights providing some outside seating and affording great views towards the river. The breakfast service was a bit haphazard though, meaning we had to go asking for bowls, cups and cutlery on a few occasions. The egg station was good but the so called toaster should be prosecuted under the trade descriptions act.
The lobby bar prices are obviously higher than in the bars outside but in keeping with the other hotels we experienced. Cocktails were just over 900K Dong which relates to £3 Stirling or just over $4.
The hotel location is good being a five minute walk back from the river and it is worth turning right and right out the hotel at night to see the French War Memorial and take a stroll down the riverside boardwalk to see the illuminated dragon boats and bridges.
