I’ve stayed 3 times this year (business travel) because of the location (close to my company’s POM office and walking distance from Government offices). I used to stay at Crowne Plaza (now Crown Hotel) next door but others suggested I try GP. I’m glad I did and I know alternate between the two (GP is slicker and more modern but Crown has a rustic charm). Here are my comments:

- Views out to the west are amazing - if you’re lucky enough to get a room on the West side you’re treated to a perfect vantage point for Apec Haus & Ela Beach.

- There is a classy looking bar on the ground floor lobby where you can watch state of origin and sit in comfy high backed chairs. Service is ok. The staff are friendly but lacked confidence which may be due to lack of training e.g barman had difficulty operating eftpos/credit card machine.

- Room quality is excellent with beds made up each day, water bottles provided and plenty of space. Wifi works very well consistently. Check in was efficient and porters/concierges were very good - confident, chatty and happy to be there.

- Outdoor Pool area was welcoming with plenty of tables and it looks great at night with all the coloured lights. No one ever seems to swim in the pool however.

- Grand Brasserie is beautiful to look at and the dinner menu & food quality is excellent. Service is ok (see earlier point). Breakfast buffet had everything you would expect of a 4/5 star hotel. I particularly liked the yoghurt, fruit and muesli served in the glass cups. You can get a proper espresso coffee in the bar next door.

- Executive Club lounge on top floor is a great place for informal business meetings.

All in all Grand Papua is a comfortable, well run hotel for the most part and I look forward to my next visit.

We stayed yesterday for my daughter 6th birthday. Excellent hotel staff service, special mention to Sean Hillman for his hospitality ,friendliness & great service. They made my daughter's birthday extra special by putting some decors in the pool and made sure they will enjoy the nice food they prepare. Room was spacious , clean and have a perfect view of Ela Beach and breakfast was terrific. Will definitely stay again and highly recommended.

The hotel rests at the heart of the Port Moresby CBD with breathtaking views of the beautiful harbor. With the scent of the Pacific Ocean filling the air and the cool breeze caressing one's skin by the trade winds, your eyes will not fall short of awe. The hotel has amazing facilities. Totally loved the bar and pool. The tower is well complimented by lovely amenities and the helpful staff. One in particular, Natasha Oawa was of great help in assisting with my queries.

We loved being Here fit our short 3 day stay here. We were collected from the POM airport a few minutes after arriving from Australia. The hotels stand out the front of arrivals with signs of their hotel. If you can’t find grand Papua you can get a lift with their sister hotel ELA beach - all part of coral seas hotel. Relax. If the Papuans are not smiling it’s bc they are concentrating on doing their job. The check in was quick and easy, the bar served great beer and cold wine. The staff are the nicest loveliest people in the world and appear very happy. Views over ELA beach from our room were perfect. The pool has very comfortable lounges where both my husband and I fell asleep on. Sadly the pool wasn’t the biggest and it was a bit cold. It seems to be in the shadows all day. Breakfast was included in our rate and the paw paw and fruits are the best in the world. So too their salads. Oh and the coffee is to die for. I ate scrambled eggs scones and baked beans. But my husband said he ate everything and all was great. Especially the bacon. We drank a drink up in the executive lounge. It’s views are nice but no one was there. I would like to see more happen up their. It seems like a nice room going to waste. The grand bar downstairs was comfy and we ordered a small plate of food. It was quick and very nice.

Bed was super comfy, views from our balcony that you need to request they unlock was brilliant, but it lacked a chair we could sit on. The air con is icy cold & so on Our last night I kept ours turned off. I slept like a log with no cold air blowing on me. Hubby woke hot he said. But he was born in the snow. The room contained lots of mirrors, big tv lots of channels, microwave, fridge, plates knives forks sink bench and a great bathroom, safe etc etc. plus it always smelt nice. I hope I can go back again and catch up with all the lovely staff. Security guys too. I miss them already

It is supposed to be the best, or one of the best hotel in town.

The staff is surely very kind and extremely professional. If it had not been for the staff and the management I would have rated the hotel lower.

The view over the Ela beach is fantastic but the smell of mold, humidity, in the rooms, and in the lift is terrible. Carpets on the floors should be replaced. The policy of locking the windows is hard to understand. They never change air in the rooms. that's way probably the stink. It took me several days to get used to the stink every time I was walking into the lifts and in my room. But after a while it got away, not sure whether I had got used to or thanks to the greater use of the room.

One evening I suffered a termites attack in my room and I had to change room at 10 p.m. Another evening the power switch was not working so that I was in the dark. The first repair attempt failed so, again, I was given another room, albeit only temporarily while my room got fixed. The switch had to be repaired again, this time for good, the next day.

The stink aside, the rooms are comfortable and the beds excellent. The hotel is very quiet and extremely safe. The best is the staff. They make everything possible to address problems and try to make your stay pleasant. They also very effectively and professionally addressed the problem experienced by a colleague.

The food is good.

Security is extremely good.

It would be good if you ask for executive lounge access where you can enjoy breakfast and happy hour drinks. But after breakfast food is only available between 17:30 and 18:30 and is always the same. More a snack than a light dinner like in other executive lounges I have seen.

The advertise a swimming pool. It is more a bath tub.

Room Tip: high floor overlooking port moresby bay rather than ela beach (more windy).

Dear Guido D, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience from your recent stay. My team and I appreciate your kind comments on our service from our staff and management. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and I’m glad that we had resolved the issues to your satisfaction. We also note the air quality issues you experienced during your stay. It is a challenge in humid conditions to get proper air circulation especially when air-conditioning is expected to be set at very cold temperatures to combat the heat from the outdoors. Our housekeeping team do open the balconies doors in every room and suite during cleaning to get fresh air in. Balcony doors are unlocked for guests at their request and also locked for guests with children. An extensive refurbishment program is currently planned for 2019. My team and I are looking forward to see these changes take place and I’m sure our guests would welcome the fresh look of our hotel. We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the near future and thank you once again for an honest review. Best Regards, Vic N General Manager
