Booked M Social for a weekend staycation. Heard about the design aesthetic of the hotel and was indeed quite impressed by the modern chic look when you go through the main lobby.
The hotel seems very popular among young couples, which led to a long queue for entry and check-in. However, check-in is pretty efficient and the staff are courteous enough to grant last minute requests and changes. Service by the front desk staff was good!
Booked the Alcove Cosy Room. Room size is small, but is good enough for 2 persons. I’m generally not a fan of hotel rooms where the wash basin is outside the toilet, but it seems to be norm in a lot of boutique hotels nowadays. The overall design of the room is modern and chic. The room was also clean and comfortable, although there were inconsistencies with the towels (we only had big towels and didn’t get any small ones) and the safety kits (my friend’s room didn’t get any).
The pool and gym has to be booked prior to access. However, you would have to go down to the reception to book your access (max 1 person in the gym at one time; not sure about the pool) before going up to the pool/gym area. The pool is of reasonable size, with a view of the river side.
Dinner at Beast & Butterflies was good. The food was great, the ambience was relaxed and the overall service was good. Breakfast was OK, typical breakfast standard, nothing much to shout about though.
There were hits and misses in terms of the service, but what I didn’t really like was how we had to go down to the reception/restaurant to get the things we needed/requested for. For example, we wanted a bucket of ice and a wine bottle opener, and were told to go down to the restaurant to get the ice and bring down the wine to get it opened. I’m not sure if the situation was the same prior to COVID-19 and all the safe distancing measures but, as a hotel, I found it weird and frankly disappointing.
The hotel also does not offer complimentary parking, so those who drive need to take note. Although I’m not too sure if that’s the case for all guests. The Robertson Quay area has chill vibes and there are a lot of eating and drinking options around, so you have quite a lot of options for dining.
Overall, it was an OK stay.
Alcove room for $132 SGD prepaid on Agoda. Fairly bureaucratic checkin process with an extensive online declaration required, but fortunately not too many other people checking in at around 4:30pm. 19sqm room with tiny bathroom (rain shower but no bath). Queen size bed only (quite small for 2 people). Very high ceilings. Room in good condition (quite new) and quiet: only minor noise from doors in corridor slamming. Friendly and helpful staff. No spoons provided. 2 small bottles of water provided free. Small amenities pack (1 mask & hand sanitiser provided): no 2nd mask though. Very good location near river. Free wifi worked well for Netflix. Small lap pool on level 5. Late checkout to 1pm permitted.
Upon check-in, Davidson was warm and welcoming, which was a fine addition to the cosy ambience at the hotel lobby. He had also proven to be knowledgeable about the hidden gems in the nearby vicinity and even went the extra mile to help research my preferred Japanese food. Furthermore, he was prompt in responding to our need for an additional bath set, just because we girls have long, long hair!! The bath sets provided were also gentle for our hair, which was a strong plus point to us. The Alcove room itself was also pretty with a partial pool view and high ceiling, providing a novel experience for a hotel stay. A pleasant and seamless stay from the start to the end, and hence highly recommended :)
Went for a weekend staycay with hubby.
We got the loft room. Room was generally small but it's ok. Bed was below, the tv is on the top floor which was a bit weird bc I like to watch tv in bed before sleep.
Pool was not anything fancy but basic n good for laps.
Generally, hotel was not crowded at all. We only saw about 3 to 5 other couples and 1 family? But the next day when we requested for late checkout, the staff checked her comp for a quick few minutes and she went, Oh sorry we are fully booked. I mean, it's ok if we can't checkout late but look around. We can see how "fully booked" u guys are.
Even when we went for breakfast tt morning, there were like only a few people in the restaurant. We had the whole pool to ourselves that morning.
It's ok if u don't let us checkout late. It's really ok but don't lie🤷🏼♀️
