Pro : very good staff, all very kind.
Sherry at the gym very professional and also nice person.
Lots of space, clean beach, clean rooms, very relaxing, good gym , quiet not too much people (depend of the season)
Cons : actually haven't found anything wrong
Transport: 30-minute taxi ride from airport, cost around 120RMB. We couldn't take hotel shuttle because of our flight schedule. Would be good to have shuttle service at more times during the day/night.
Room: TV was bit small for viewing when lying in bed, but only because the room was so big and spacious! The garden-facing balcony had comfortable chairs perfect for afternoon naps. Reasonably clean. Had all the baby stuff we needed.
Food: Burger and dandan noodles were great at Social, but pasta wasn't as good. Kids menu had enough variety. Ming Xuan had good Chinese food. Driftwood had the best atmosphere; we had paella outdoors. Breakfast and dinner buffet were good, especially the satays and dumplings. In-room dining was convenient, but food often arrived lukewarm.
Amenities: Pools were kid-friendly. Beach was nice and clean. Appreciate the lifeguards for watching attentively for people's safety on many occasions. Kid liked the bouncy castle set up in the conference hall. Gym had the basics you'll need for holiday but not conveniently accessible - the only available route from room to gym was a long detour around the lobby area.
Service: Online communication was a bit confusing, as 3 different butlers replied at different times to answer the same question. A few servers at Social repeatedly needed reminders to provide what we requested (new staff I assume). Other than that, pretty good service overall. Special thanks to 吉日新 (Alan?) from Social for his hospitality; Neil from Social for putting in special order for sweet potato for baby's dinner, remembered us, and took the initiative to personally bring us sweet potato the next morning at breakfast; Garrett Tan for always making us feel welcomed at Ming Xuan; and housekeeper lady in the West Wing (didn't catch her name) for taking the initative to ask for a baby carriage on our behalf. The lounge/restaurant musicians - Soul Inspiration - were a treat to the ears!
We brought our two kids aged 11 and 13 to Sanya and stayed four nights at St Regis. The room was spacious for four people. The beds were okay and the bathroom was enormous. Our room was facing the dock, with a view of the inner side of the hotel, a large amount of greenery. The telephone shortcuts doesn’t seem to work and the WiFi was slow.
The staff there were very friendly. We appreciate very much their courtesy service. April who had been answering our emails greeted us on our arrival . Our butler, Nicky was cheerful and responded to our needs quickly and accurately.
Except for the lounge at the lobby, staff from other catering are more attentive. We first visited the Social restaurant. Some food was not hot enough, such as the small, warm dish of spaghetti and the price was rather expensive. The other two restaurants were much better. Especially the one named Driftwood which serves western food. The waiters and chefs were all very helpful and friendly. Chef Jason warmly introduced us the menu, he even cooked us a Carbonara Spaghetti for our kids which was not in the menu. It was exceptionally delicious -according to the kids- exactly their cup of tea. Upon the recommendation of Jason, we had steak, lamb chop, oysters and the seafood risotto, which are all freshly made, steamy and delicious. I particularly like the wagyu steak, juicy and not bloody. We enjoyed very much the hospitality and company of Jason and Frank that we spent three evenings there. It would be great if they add more variety to the menu. Frank also provided us with some useful travel advice.
The weather was bad during the first few days of our stay, so we got to experience the facilities very thoroughly. The spa was great. The lady massaged me from head to toe, very comfortable. The swimming pools were great, it's not too crowded, it's very enjoyable. They've got water slides, bubbles so kids were entertained too. The gym's facilities were new and comprehensive. The mini theatre was quite grand, we watched a movie and the 3D quality was comparatively great. The seats were comfortable too.
It was sunny on our last day, thankfully. We walked along the private beach of the hotel. The scenery was beyond beautiful. The wind was blowing so it wasn't too hot. We took a bunch of memorable photos.
All in all, the hotel facilities were clean and well maintained, the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time at St Regis, it's a fantastic experience.
Huge & pampering rooms for guest and meeting. Excellent breakfast spread and nice beach,
What would take it to a 5 star on this page :
1. Tried 4 of its restaurants. Only the French restaurant is nice. The beachfront seafood restaurant is totally over valued with the taste it serves.
2. Banquet staff is overly good in service. I requested several times to allow me to make my own tea, for personal preferencce in taste (I like to mix my teas), and for speed.
The banquet sets up a bar to serve the meeting group. The bar serves one cup at a time and it was extremely slow when the entire group stands waiting for their morning drink, and at break times. EVen with 2 staff, it was difficult for them to cope with 30pax. Despite my requests, I was poiltely turned down to make my own tea. And I didnt get my drink several times due to the queue, and had to head back for my meeting.
I certainly think they can learn to flex between service and meeting customers' needs.
3. The gym was rather well equipped. But young kids (below 5 years old) were running around the equipment with parents playing loudly with them.
4. The walk to to the indoor cinema passes by a very stinky toilet I think. The same stench is strongly detected in the gym as well. I could not stay more than 5 minutes in this environment.
5. Very slow service upon checkin and out. This was reflected by several guests in my group.
On a few occassions when I was there, there were just 2 staff at front desk. I overheard one of them kept dialing up another staff for additional help needed at the front desk. The help didnt appear for like 20 minutes. I left without seeing any additional help.
On the other hand, there are a few staff standing at the lobby and concierge. The moment you linger for a second, they would approach you to check if you need something. Strange.
Having arrived at the airport we were met by the hotel chauffeur and escorted to the awaiting limo. Impressive service started from the very onset.
The journey to the hotel is approx 30 mins depending on traffic. We arrived the same day the cyclone had just past the north of Hainan Island and to look at Sanya you wouldn't have thought it as nothing was affected.
At the hotel we were greeted with cold towel and refreshing drink before being shown to our room. It's the first time ever I haven't had to go to check in, as this is done by the butler, again impressive.
On first impression St Regis is real class. Rooms are very spacious elegant and well acquitted with all the mod cons of today. Our room initially overlooked the Marina (lovely view and very peaceful) however after a good walk around the hotel grounds we enquired about the lagoon room ( with pool).
The rooms and butler service are great and staff service couldn't be faulted. For expats it's a great escape from hustle and bustle of mainland China.
Thanks to Anne Scott (Manager) for your personal meet n greet.
The hotel is very nice but in places maintenance is required in particular around pool areas where tiles are loose of have fallen off perhaps with some subsidence due to new build property.
The hotel has plenty selection of international foods, wines, beers and a lovely infinity pool area with swim up bar.
The gym is very well equipped with cardiovascular machines and weight lifters will be happy with the selection of loose weights and machines
All in all a great escape and we will return.
Hope you enjoy
