Basically, the check out time is 10:00 am and when it was exactly 10:00 am a woman knocked on the door requesting to leave the room. I have never seem something so stupid and impolite in my uncountable travel life.
DON NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Room was clean. Very low key. A good spot to rest after a long flight and before going on to adventures. Quiet beach within walking distance. Breakfast was fresh fruits, baguettes, butter, jam, coffee or tea. Friendly, non-intrusive staff.
The Pension de la Plage is a lovely, homely family-run motel on the ring road. The owners and staff were really friendly and helpful, and spoke a moderate amount of English - although it helps if you at least try to speak some French as that’s the national language. Our kitchenette room had good cooking facilities (although no tea/coffee supplied), but the supermarket is only a short walk away and hot drinks are served as part of the lovely continental breakfast on offer each morning. Beds were comfortable and everything was clean and secure. Dogs and cats were friendly. The rooms at the front of the property are a little noisy as traffic heading into the city starts early. But there was no honking of horns or sirens. 🙂 Gardens are lush and well maintained, and the pool looked lovely. (I travelled for work and didn’t manage a dip!) The beach access is straight across the road. We had a really lovely stay and I would happily return to stay at this accommodation.
We book this hotel after getting off a cruise ship and having to spend the entire day on Tahiti before our flight home.
The owners and staff went out of the way to make us feel comfortable. The pool is refreshing and rooms are large. There is a restaurant that services the hotel directly on the ocean. The room have a/c.
Due to no taxis available the night of my flight home, the owner went out of his way to take us to the airport.
Spent three wonderful days here. Totally simple, with fridge, hot plate for cooking, if wanted. Start your day by walking north to the boulanger for excellent croissant and pan au chocolat. Then have the pension breakfast.
There is loaner snorkel equipment, but we had our own. Walk across the street, through the public parking lot and there is the lagoon. The farther out you go, the better the fish and corals. Easily forty, fifty kinds of each. Great visibility. We would go right to the barrier reef, for hours, coming back all prunish and chilled!! Some of the finest snorkelling ever for us! Better than anything we've seen in the Caribbean!
Don't miss the roast chicken roulotte at the traffic circle you passed on the way for croissants. A big chicken, roast potatoes and amazing gravy....1800 fpx. Closed Monday and Tuesday. We hitch hiked into Papeete one day, had to taxi back at 3200fpx after dark! No buses. Went for the pierside roulottes. Nothing outstanding and pricey when factoring in that taxi return. There are two other roulottes, crepes and pizza, by the pension, which we missed, as they were both closed on Tuesday!!
Yes, the pension is on the road. So turn on the music on your phone. Very low...comfortable bed.
There is a dehumidifier in the room which made for a very comfortable environment.
Your hosts are a friendly, hard working French Polynesian family.
