Our family celebrated a wedding at Villa Pottipati earlier this month. We took all eight rooms, so we could spread ourselves out; and we had the use of the outdoor space as well. It really felt like going home to your grandparents' place, a treat I haven't had in many years! Only this was even better, because it is more beautiful, better preserved and more spacious than my ancestral home ever was.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a variety of rooms to choose from -- one opening onto the pool, one with a lovely balcony, one with a loft for a child, and so on. Each is named after a traditional textile, like Venkatagiri and Kanchipuram. Looking up Kota-Masuria led us to an interesting snippet of history. We loved their assorted heirloom furniture and the family portraits on the walls too.
Wilson and Padmini, the managers (and their little daughter Christina), were like family. They are friendly, very helpful and obliging, without obtruding in the least. So we could congregate in the common area for a (slightly off-key) singing session or play badminton in the drive without feeling self-conscious. The dining area below the mango tree is absolutely delightful, and the food was great! As the hotel kitchen is equipped to cater to just the inhouse guests, we catered in meals for which we had larger numbers. But the breakfasts were more than adequate, and the one dinner we ordered at the hotel was exactly as we wanted it, vegan and low on spice.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has a sense of history, or just loves old places. And it's the perfect venue for a family get-together or wedding. Also, set in the heart of Malleshwaram, one of Bangalore's oldest residential areas, you can walk out and find anything you need -- from snacks to flowers to stationery to clothes -- within five minutes.
Thanks a ton for a happy and memorable time, Villa Pottipati! We will be back!
