This was my second stay at an Alam property having enjoyed Alam Indah previously. I asked for a ground floor room due to a foot injury and loved sitting on my outside veranda enjoying the garden and rice field views. It even had a day bed which was ideal due my limited mobility. It was a lovely quiet place to relax and recuperate. Transport was available to nearby restaurants as there is no restaurant attached but a quality breakfast and complimentary afternoon tea is provided. I would be very happy to return to Alam Jiwa and their friendly staff in the future when travel is able to resume after the corona virus.
We spend four peaceful nights at Alam Jiwa. The room was spacious and beautiful. The staff were kind and accommodating. We were in a second floor room overlooking the rice fields. The stream behind made a nice natural sound. Breakfast on the balcony looking at the volcano was wonderful. We would stay here again.
True to the meaning of its name, indeed it felt as if we were staying in the soul of nature at Alam Jiwa. I took great care in choosing this lodging, since it was not only the first visit to Bali for myself and my husband, but we arrived on our 41st wedding anniversary, so the occasion called for something special and we were not disappointed. Both of us loved everything about it - the beautiful, airy Merpati Room - really more of a suite, with its spacious terrace, romantic bedroom and huge open-air bathroom, the delightful, stunningly-landscaped and grounds, the inviting pool and the welcoming staff who made us feel at ease and cared for at every turn. Breakfasts on our terrace were a highlight. We delighted in the views of birds and squirrels (even from the shower) as well as seeing the daily morning ritual of placing offering baskets around the property and farmers at work in the neighboring rice fields. At night we loved hearing frogs and geckos.
It was an easy walk to many restaurants, the Sacred Monkey Forest and downtown Ubud, but the free hotel shuttle was appreciated at night when the forest path was closed and walking on the motor roads felt a bit too dicey with so much scooter traffic. We took advantage of the discount offered at the nearby Alam Wangi Spa for massage. The setting and services were superb.
Alam Jiwa arranged for our pick-up at the airport and for a driver to take us to several out of town sites we wanted to visit. They also obliged us with take-away breakfast boxes and insisted on providing extra-early coffee when our birding guide wanted to pick us up at 6 am on our last day at Alam Jiwa.
This hotel is more of a destination than just an accommodation. If future travels bring us back to Bali, you can be sure returning to Alam Jiwa will be a priority.
We stayed here for 3 nights during a 3 week holiday to Singapore and Indonesia. The hotel had their system hacked prior to our arrival which meant we had been contacted by someone who said they were from the hotel who then tried to take payment. We realise this sort of thing happens from time to time and the hotel wasn't to blame however we were upgraded to a superior room to make up for the hassle - which was a lovely gesture and not expected at all. The room was extremely spacious with an outdoor seating area overlooking the neighbouring rice fields and an outdoor shower which was just heavenly. The pool area is lovely and you can choose to enjoy the sumptious breakfast here or in the comfort of your room. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly and really couldn't do enough for us. The hotel is within easy walking distance of lots of restaurants, monkey forest and trips can be arranged to lots of other attractions. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would like to thank everyone at Alam Jiwa for making us so welcome. Highly recommended.
This was our second stay with the Alam group - previously we’d stayed at Alam Shanti which we absolutely loved. It wasn’t available this time, so we booked into Alam Jiwa but wondered nervously if it would be as good. We needn’t have worried!
Our room at Alam Jiwa was Jalak Bali (83sq m and $105 USD). Compared to Gangga at Alam Shanti (112 sq m and $185 USD) it was still plenty big enough and just as luxuriously furnished in Balinese style, with beautiful carved wood and stone features, marble bathroom, huge outdoor shower; and a verandah with 2 daybeds and a great rice field, river AND Gunung Agung view. Bingo! No hardship staying in this room.
As we’d discovered at Alam Shanti, the service provided was wonderful. Fantastic breakfast (in our room or by the pool. And the banana pancakes were even better than I remembered!). The free shuttle service was great. Nothing was too much trouble. Afternoon tea (free) with freshly baked cake on our verandah was a highlight, especially as we spotted a stunningly coloured Javanese Kingfisher flying across the rice fields, which obligingly landed on a nearby branch overlooking the river and hung out for 20 minutes. So special! (Another day we spotted an Asian Water Monitor lazily swimming down the river - quite like a small crocodile, so also exciting).
We didn’t use the pool, as unusually it was cool and grey the days we were there, but it looked very pretty.
The traffic in Ubud is as crazy as ever, but step back from the main road and you’ll find treasures like Alam Jiwa which is an oasis. It’s great value for money, and we can’t recommend it highly enough.
