The rooms are pretty much completely filled up with the bunk beds, if you have a big suitcase there isn't much room to put it. Now this was my first ever stay in a hostel, so I'm probably not a great judge of hostels. The bathroom was very small as well and I smacked my head on the sloping roof every time I got up from the toilet. I also found that when staying with other people, they don't really respect your things. Someone in the room took my phone off its charging stand when they came in so I woke up to a completely dead phone.
Wendy does go out of her way to organize group dinners at restaurants so you can socialize, which was very nice. So as hostels go, this may be a great one, but it was my first and last hostel experience.
I love Wendy! The place is small, but it makes it feel like a cozy home and it's easy to meet everyone staying in the hostel. The location is great..easy to get to from the subway and lots of restaurants close by. The common room isn't large, which is totally fine if you are spending most of your time out of the hostel anyway. My only suggestion would be small lights for each bunk...when people come back at all different times it's hard not to wake others up when the main light it turned on.
I've stayed at the Wendy House twice. Once in the female only dorm, and once (when the female only room was booked up) in the mixed dorm (though Wendy told me only girls were staying in that room anyways).
I've travelled to over 30 countries, and this is by far one of the best hostels I've stayed at. The room, bathroom, and common area are spotless clean, to the point that I often don't wear slippers. The location is perfect (1 minute walk to the beach, 7 minute walk to the metro, and surrounded by cafes, bars, restaurants, shops). However, the property itself is literally just off the main road, so it is insulated from the noise and crowds of the Gwangalli Beach Area.
The best thing about the hostel is how comfortable and homey it feels. Wendy makes great eggs in the morning, and always sticks around to introduce travellers to one another, and to offer tips and ideas for travelling around Busan and Korea. It is a very relaxed, laid-back atmosphere, and there is a great rooftop patio to enjoy the lights of Korea at night.
I recommend this hostel to everyone, as it is great, and incredible value-for-money.
Was at Busan for 4D3N and The Wendy House was well within my budget for the stay.
About 10 mins walk from Gwangan train station's no 3 exit. After coming up from the exit, make a u-turn and walk towards the direction of Gwangalli Beach. Walk all the way straight until you see a pet shop. The Wendy House is beside it, which is very recognizable with the red gate. There are no lifts or escalators at no 3 exit so do take note if you’re having luggages along. There is a lift at nearby no 5 exit though.
Plenty of eating places and convenient stores are available in the area. Gwangalli Beach is also less than 5 mins away from The Wendy House, which was great.
I think there are 2 storeys at The Wendy House. The ladies’ dormitory room, kitchen, common area, toilet/showers are on the 1st floor. Handmade breakfast is provided every morning by the host (Wendy). Wifi is available in the building.
I stayed at the ladies' dormitory room where there are 3 bunk beds. The bedsheets were spotlessly clean and a bed light & power socket is available for each guest. The toilet/showers were extremely clean as well.
Highly recommended because Wendy is a great host. Other than providing breakfast, she also gives great advice on where to go/what to do in Busan. She’s like a friend, and takes effort in taking care of her guests. Hope to be back soon for the breakfast (which I’ve unfortunately missed out on).
I heard about Wendy's House through a referral and I am so happy I stayed at her place. Wendy is an excellent host and I can tell she really cares about her guests and wants to make sure they all have a great experience. I stayed in a six room female dorm and it was comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. She is very helpful in offering directions and great places to visit. She gathers everyone together for dinner and drinks if they want to join and also makes an excellent breakfast. Thanks Wendy for my short but special time in Busan!
