The hotel is situated in Lapa, when you enter the area first it looks quite dilapidated and unsafe. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the vicinity but they are all very basic, so if you are looking for something better this one is not for you. The room was ok, basic and our room looked out on flats and their backyards. The staff is very helpful. The pool on the rooftop is small but a nice feature. Breakfast was good with lots of fresh fruit, joghurts, cereals, chees and a hot buffet. This hotel was included in our package deal, should we ever go back to Rio we would choose another hotel to stay.

The hotel can best be described as dated, with shabby furniture, stained sheets and curtains.

The bathroom seemed liked a bad Do it yourself job the sealant , tiling etc. We asked for a double bed but were given two singles with no mattress topper so the middle ditched and separated whenever you moved.

We found throughout our stay in South America the the cleaning ,and mini bar staff enter the room without knocking, even when the room has been cleaned and the do not disturb is on the door so always lock your door and put the latch on.

On the upside the staff were good -looking friendly, and the breakfast excellent.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights on our trip. It was very different environment when we arrived at 9 pm on the Friday night. Lots of bars and clubs in the area so there was loud music but it didn't bother us. We headed to the rooftop and seen a bit of the city lit up as well as Christ the Redeemer in the distance. The breakfast buffet in the morning was delicious, lots of fresh fruit and breads, pancakes, waffles and amazing coffee. Also, the restaurant is not prepared to cook dinner in the evening- when you order, the workers order the food online and an Uber eats driver will deliver it to the restaurant for you. (This happened because I had asked if we could charge the dinner bill to our room-you cannot as it is through Uber eats). Most days we took the towels from our room to the beach and the housekeeping was amazing about replacing them while we were out during the days. The rooftop bar is not accompanied by a worker however, so you have to use the phone to call the lobby and someone will come up and serve you. The rooms are large, you need your room key to turn the lights on (put it in the fob holder on the wall), large shower with good water pressure, fully air conditioned, rooms with a safe and mini fridge.

Most days, we walked to the stores to get snacks, beer and cases of water (they charge what you drink from the mini fridge) and it was cheaper then buying them elsewhere. Theres a pizzeria down the street that has an AMAZING lunch buffet for $25R per person. Flamengo Beach is about a 30-40 minute walk past the Lapa Arches, but you get to see a lot of very old, historical looking buildings and you past the Monument or the Dead of WWII so that's pretty cool. Great location for lots of excitement. Also, UberX was awesome at picking us up every time we used it (2-5 minutes average).

All in all, it was a great place to stay, very clean, staff were really good about helping us (as we speak English, there was a language barrier) and great location. Would definitely recommend to younger couples or solo travellers for a great trip!

Reading the reviews we thought we were going to a good hotel. However we were disappointed from the beginning. First, having booked a executive suite, we found that there was no tea/coffee making facilities. This is the first time we have had such an experience as this is a standard facility in a good hotel particularly in a suite. Next was due to late departure we wanted an extra day. Half an hour after making payment for an additional day we were informed that we had to change rooms on the last day. When the day came we were told due to a cancellation we could continue in same room until checkout.
These situations made us very disappointed with the management.
