Resort looks fantastic with a lovely pier and mountain backdrop. Sea was very warm. I saw a turtle while snorkeling. Quite a few lizards but they keep their distance. Bar and restaurant area is nice to sit in with great ocean views. Pool is nice with plenty of sun loungers. Wi-Fi is slow but when on an island like this, who needs it? There is a long jungle walk (I saw monkeys, lizards and a small snake)to a lovely waterfall but its a 3 hours+ round trip, unless you take the water taxi.

The price is value for money for a triple room. love the beach which is so near. and yes.. it's very clean and well maintained. the pool is also clean and well maintained. do try their afternoon snacks by the pool. very tasty and affordable. expect lots of locals which can make your stay a bit comfortable due to their attitude but that is minor.
breakfast is average though. there is a nice seafood restaurant nearby too. decent spending and you get nice seafood. there is a small provision stores that you can get some last min essentials.

Going alone on a trip was for me an excited experience. From the moment I arrived in Tunamaya Resort the staff gave me a warm welcome and a feeling from coming home. They where very helpful with a good balance in leaving you in your own space. I love the way they think about nature. Not giving plastic straws etc. If you are lucky you can see many animals. Like monkeys passing by the resort. The resort arrange beautiful snorkelling and diving trips. On my snorkelling trip I saw a green sea turtle and a lot of other amazing sea animals. They guide me by hiking to the top to see the view. Also the trip to the waterfall was magic. Jack, one of the staff members, learned me how to play pool and makes great cocktails! Thank you for this great experience.

If you plan to stay here, think twice. The resort should not be 4star.. can be 3 or 2 only. They have very poor wifi and network connection (useless mobile roaming as there is no signal in the resort); and very expensive and not so delicious food (except for the pizza which is literally what we ordered everyday). The snorkeling price is quite expensive too. We paid 230RM excluding lunch. The swimming pool only looks big in the photos. The buffet dinner is expensive too and not worth the price of 100RM. And have to wait for more than 30 minutes to settle the bill on the night prior to checkout as they only have 1 computer to settle the account.

To those who may be thinking of booking this hotel, read this first!

Be careful of the Agoda price offer as it changes before you check out, the offer price is NOT the check out price.

Prior to our departure to the hotel, we asked the hotel to pick us up from Tekek ferry terminal upon arrival and was let down. We were stuck there for more than an hour while we made phone call after phone call to find out where our pick up was. We gave the hotel our mobile phone number to pass to the guy/s who were supposed to pick us up but nobody phoned us. We were repeatedly told that our pick up was 10 mins away, and nobody came. Very difficult to achieve any form of understanding from the receptionist so spoke to the reservations manager, same problem so spoke to the hotel manager who eventually managed to sort out our pick up. Total nightmare to begin with over such a simple matter. So many taxi touts pestering us while waiting there for our pick up too.

Got to the hotel eventually and had a word with the manager about the hiccup. I asked if he could do something before we settle our bill at checkout to put things right as it was supposed to be a special occasion, to which he agreed to see what he could do.

The hotel organised a candlelight dinner on the beach for us with a set menu on the night before we were to leave as an attempt to make things up for the problem on our arrival (it was the birthday of one of our party). After the dinner, which was not hot and only ok, we walked through the dining room and was suprisingly called back by the restaurant staff. They then promptly charged us all for the dinner!! Amazing. If we were to be charged we would have liked to have chosen our food.

We also needed help in arranging for the ferry back to the mainland on our departure. The hotel was also very reluctant to help and said we had to do this ourselves. The hotel has a very poor internet connection so we were unable to do that on either our laptops or mobile phones. The hotel then said ok, you can use one of our computers to do this but that they would not help. So now we had become the guest services department. After nearly two hours of waisting our time trying to book this on line, I again complained to the manager who spoke to the woman that refused to help us, and she completed the task with one phone call in around five minutes. Again, amazing!!

At checkout we complained about the hotel services and the meal etc. The manager discounted 40 Ringget off of each set meal. The original meal cost was more than 200 Ringget per head and we never got to choose what we had...........

Whilst in the reception, another hotel guest came running in having been stung by what appeared to be a group of wasps from a wasp nest around the pool area. He did not seem to happy with things either.

Snorkelling will cost you around 200 ringgit after negotiation for half a day. You can get this for around half the price in Tekek for a whole day. We were told that the guy who organised the snorkelling would be with us the whole time to ensure we were safe. Once we were off the boat and into the water we were left to our own devices and drifted a long way from the anchored boat. One of our party was very sea sick and the organiser insisted she was better off in the water than on the boat. This does not strike me as being safety conscious.

Rooms are ok and the location is ok, BUT do not go to this hotel expecting good service or value for money. Be warned!
