We've been planning to go to Malaysia for a long time, but did not want to visit any of the commercial overcrowded places. Redang became and obvious choice due to its location and also that it was a part of the marine park.
The staff at Redang bay resort are extremely helpful. Shing Ng made sure our rooms were ready by the time we arrived. The rooms were absolutely clean. We stayed for 4N/5D and were given complimentary trips to the marine park and Turtle watching. The staff at the dive school are absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable.
We wanted to go for a trek as well but unfortunately it was closed due to rains before our arrival.
Few things the resort could do better:
They do not accept cards and insist on complete payment by cash before boarding the ferry. This can be a put off.
The choice for vegetarians is extremely limited. My wife had a very difficult time as she is a vegetarian. The kitchen staff did their best to accommodate her, but still it could've been better.
Some great things:
Staff always cheerful and ready to help.
Rooms very clean
The reef opposite the hotel absolutely breathtaking
The dive school staff very particular about safety of guests
The swimming pool was kept clean
The resort was nature friendly
All in all a beautiful resort and a lovely island. A must visit and a hidden gem of Malaysia.
Worst lobby - badly done, hot and dirty
Worst swimming pool, dirty and was not maintained properly
Worst room - it's bare and badly done, the room is WORSE than BUDGET HOTEL.
Obviously they are under staff.
We have three huge luggages and six smaller luggages, with three children from 2-8 years and two senior person ard 70 years, two ladies (one of them actually has knee injuries) and I am the only man that can do all the carrying,
And we had to carry all luggages ourselves to the rooms located at the first floor.
Food was lousy, no ala cart option and drinks got to buy ourselves at the convenient shop at the ground floor
The bar only off at 12 mid night and you could hear the loud music it clearly from the rooms.
The service of the pick up from jetty to our stop over hotel at Chinatown before proceeding to the airport at night was really bad.
First there is no communication between the driver and the resort. He is suppose to pick us from Chinatown hotel at 6pm but he tell us the office will close at 5.30, after we explain to him about our agreement with the resort, the only word given by him is it's entirely up to us if we are ok with the risk of getting late to the airport due to the ramadhan traffic. It turns up the traffic was totally smooth without jam at all.
Same reason also given by the resort when we are arranging this with them.
When he pick us up from Chinatown hotel, instead of parking at the side of the hotel, he parks at opposite, this show the man just couldn't think property or that's the standard of their service - BAD.
we have senior people and small children and luggages with us, that's how they manage for us.
AVOID THIS HOTEL, even if there is no other hotel rooms available in this island.
Go to other island.
Never go during peak holidays! Boarding the ferry to and from Redang is a nightmare especially traveling with kids. Staffs at Redang Bay seldom smile and friendliness is truly lacking. Truly a contrast from many years back.
Be prepared to pay for a ridiculous RM15 for renting a life jacket for snorkeling trips as it seems to be a must even if you bring your own mask and snorkel.
The singing from the 'pub' till midnight ensure you do not sleep before 12pm.
Irresponsible snorkel 'guide' has the cheek to pick 'items' from the seabed on to the boat for the pleasure of customers' viewing and to play with. No conservation responsibility at all !
Food and lodging is acceptable. Murky pool that they don't seem bother to clean.
Overall, will never stay in Redang Bay again, prefer to spend a little more for a relaxing holiday at other resorts!
Comfy and clean for an easy, simple stay. We took a snorkling package with meals so we eat at its dining hall. The food is ok though a bit disappointed with the Bbq dinner. They have a swimming pool and helpful staff. I think this place is suitable for group and activity centric stay. If your days are packed with activities, you just come back to the room to eat, clean and sleep you'll find this place perfect and reasonably priced. If you're looking to chill by the beach a lot and doing anything so much this isn't the place for you. Request for room further from the bar if you can't handle the noise at night. It's right in front the beach, so you can watch the sunrise in the morning, quick access to the boats for your snorkling or diving trips, have a long night walks along the beach and hangout. All other resorts are close to each other so you can walk by and discover other activities. We went to look for the "blue sands" at the end of the beach. You should go in the middle of the night to see them.
Well, I won't talk about the dorm rooms, noisy, but about the chalets, very dark, dirty, old... not charming !
The swimming pool also, dirty, no chair...
The food, just bad ! But the afternoon tea is fine, with a large choice of buns, that's a good point ! Why the hell they don't offer these buns for breakfast ?
It's a place full of chinese families, noisy, so it's not the place to be for quiet holidays !
The staff is friendly, they organize snorkeling or jungle trek sessions, for free !
We spent one night, to try, but we moved to another fancy place, there's a lot of nice hotels around !
