Our friend booked this house with very good price, and i didnt expected it to be good before, but i actually enjoyed my time there. The breakfast was quiet good there, and the owner and his family were very friendly. I specially love the little girl, who is so adorable and would greet to us with good morning and gave us very big and sweet smile...❤
For the room i stayed, the facility was good of you are not expecting to live in a boutique or luxious hotel.
Overall it was satisfying.😊
Firstly, Dambulla overall, regardless of where you want to go is NOT worth staying in. As it is more of a stopover location. I'd personally rather have done day trips from Kandy than staying here.
The location is the ONLY good thing about Lark Lodge as it is directly across the Golden / Cave temples.
Our fan (non AC) room was $23 a night. Room was basic, beds and pillow very hard, small excuse of a bath towel, and the shower was practically on top of the toilet with NO shower curtain. Floods!
Upon reaching we realised of the 4 (only 4) rooms - we were the only visitors! Therefore we asked to be moved to the Aircon room at the extortionate price of $30 a night. Upon attempting to shower that night - realised the shower was broken!
In addition, NO attempts at room service were offered or made whatsoever. Bins weren't emptied, towels not replaced, nothing! Needless to say, they made a sweet payday from us by charging us this extortionate price, given the poor services and weren't willing to negotiate on reducing the price to $25 a night either.
The daughter who speaks better English is only around in the evenings. The older father, who is lovely, hardly speaks any English so negotiations or getting local recommendations etc was very hard.
It is also located off a dirt road and NO night lights so it does no feel safe to walk around at night at all.
Do NOT stay here, save your money and do day trips to Dambulla instead.
Run by a lovely family who went out of their way to be helpful. They offered to meet me at the bus station with my pack when i came back from Sigiriya so i wouldn't have to come back to the guesthouse before traveling onward. They waited up for me to walk home in the dark from dinner and gave me a ride to the bus station in the morning. The room was clean and had a mosquito net. Definitely a good value and a welcoming place.
We stayed here for four nights whilst we explored the tourist attractions at the local area.
The host family were incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. They helped us organise trips to Sigiriya, Minneriya and Polonnaruwa and found a lovely tuk tuk driver to take us.
The room was basic but comfortable with air con and a private bathroom. Only issue was that there was a slight leak in the bathroom but this didn't cause any problems.
On request, you can have dinner here. We did this on one night and the food was delicious and very fair in price. Breakfast was arranged each day according to the time we requires it, and was filling and tasty.
The guesthouse is on a quiet road away from the noisy main road, with a local market nearby. There are lots of stray dogs around and a few do bark when you pass them at night.
Dambulla cave temples is literally across the road, five minutes walk.
First, the hosts are very kind, hospitable, and courteous! :) The room is basic but it's clean and spacious. Enough for a good rest after a long day of touring at the nearby attractions. There's always a simple but filling breakfast every morning. And it's just a 2-minute walk to the Dambulla Temple / Caves.
Will stay with them again if ever I go back to Dambulla!
