We just had the vacation of a lifetime. The lodge is beautiful, location incredible and Bob is a delight.
We stayed at the lodge, "the cabin," the house Bob lives at. The back porch is about forty feet from the river. On the second day we saw we happened upon caribou less than a mile from Bob's place. In short, it's a little piece of paradise. The lodge is gorgeous, huge and immaculate. It is a brand new building. Each day our beds were made and a few candies we're left in our room. We stayed on the second floor, our suite had a balcony. I think each of the bedrooms have a television. The upstairs suite has a wonderful shower, two separate heads. All the comfortable of a home I wish we could afford.
Bob is a great guy. He knows the area well, endlessly helpful during our stay. He has a great sense of humor. Always got up early to make sure breakfast and a fresh pot of coffee was ready when we woke up. He packs a darn good lunch, I mean better than the lunches my mom packed for me as a kid.
The fishing trips he setup for us were incredible. Never had so much luck fishing in my life. He doesn't just know good companies, he also picked specific guides for us. We fished for kings, took a seaplane to find some silvers and fished for halibut. In three days we caught 240 lbs of fish, 118 lbs of meat. Bob's crew packs it all and is shipping it to my door. Honestly, we didn't need to prepare a single fish, we focused only on the catching aspect on our adventures.
I mean it when I say we had the trip of a lifetime. The seaplane alone would have made this a stellar experience. Yet, that is only one small aspect of what made this trip special. Best part, I have plenty of fishing stories for my buddies, and I don't even need to lie about the size of the catch!
Three of us stayed Bob's lodge (not the one on the river) for 5 nights. We stayed in a very nice one bedroom (sleeps 6) suite. We enjoyed the full kitchen facilities, dining area and living room. The deck space was spectacular. New gas bbq was used to grill three freshly caught fish dinners.
Bob also set up four trips:Kenai river, King Salmon, Crescent Lake fly in, and Halibut fishing that were all wonderful. He also filleted our fish and shipped part of it home (The rest we carried on the plane.) He was very responsive to our needs, the wi- fi was great and I definitely recommend his services. You wont be sorry if you use them.
We stayed in the private log cabin near the main lodge and had full cooking facilities, wifi, tv, refrigerator, private bathroom, and clean, comfortable living room and bedroom, plus private patio. Bob set us up with sack lunches and excellent guides for river, ocean and glacial lake fishing. We even took a float plane so we could go "fishing with bears" for salmon. We caught lots of halibut, salmon, and rockfish, which Jim packaged, froze and had shipped to our home via air. He also had some of our fish smoked, which will be delicious. Bob and his staff go the extra mile to make his B&B and guide service a standout.
Decided to trust trip advisor and booked with Bob. We stayed in his home and were met by his welcoming committee...3 beautiful friendly lab type dogs. Kathy oriented us to where we were staying, explained the rules, got our food preferences for our lunches and provided us with fishing permits. Bob did not have his usual full compliment of fishing guides...2 out on medical leave, so he had to subcontract us to some guides about a mile away. This was not a problem and his choice of guides was excellent.
On day 1 we started fishing shortly after 0600 and had limited out before 0800. We were supposed to go halibut fishing in Homer (2 hours drive) on day 2, but were stormed out. We went fishing on the river again and all limited out, but it rained almost the entire time. Make sure you have proven rain gear....we went to town (Walmart) and got a set of what the guides were using and were much drier the next day. Day 3 we chose to salmon fish again, rather than try for halibut...one of us limited out in 4 hours and the other did not get a bite.
Dave processed our salmon in 2 people portion sizes, froze it and packaged it up in less than 50# total weight boxes as we took the frozen fish back with us on the plane. We arrived back in Las Vegas 2 days later and all fish were still frozen solid.
Our room was beautiful with our own private balcony where we had champagne and home made caviar made from the salmon roe caught that morning...yummmm. Suspect everyone thought we were nuts because they use the eggs as the bait for the salmon.
We could not have felt more welcome and cherish our memories there. This trip could have been considered a couples, family, friends or solo trip.
AMAZING! PERFECT VACATION!! My father and I have talked about taking a dream fishing trip to Alaska and we finally did last week! We found Bob's Cabin online & read all the reviews on TripAdvisor and book it! And even with all the rave reviews, our expectations were STILL exceeded! The facility is BEAUTIFUL! The customer service is WORLD CLASS and they made you feel like you were a part of the family. The guide services that were arranged for us were all extremely knowledgeable and well skilled. They put us right on top of the fish everyday. We limited out most days, and the days we didn't was due to our lack of hooking them in the mouth! It was AMAZING! No matter when we were leaving, breakfast was ready for us. The lunches provided and snack bags were the envy of everyone else on the boat. We even had snacks to spare (we had them in our room for later). The staff is well organized and flexible to our changing schedules. They made it happen with a smile. Captain, Tannelle and Matey were great to come home to after a long day of fishing. I would love to make Bob's Cabin my second home every Summer now! It is pretty remote and that is what I loved about it! Highly recommend does not do it justice... you HAVE TO STAY HERE! LOVE THEM!
