I moved here for four nights following a conference and hotel stay downtown, wanting a quieter, more personable, and driving-accessible base for day trips to nearby national parks and countryside visits. My room was accessible off the back yard pocket garden and was mostly quiet, with french doors opening to the small plunge pool and the tranquility of birds at a bird feeder and the resident cat co-existing. Saturday night revelry at the property next door meant noise until late, but not on other evenings. The queen bed was comfortable and the cozy room clean and perfectly fine for me though the bathroom and shower stall would be a tight fit for larger people or couples. Breakfast was hosted by Jaqui who offered freshly cooked eggs to order to go along with a spread of cold cereals, toast, yogurt, seasonal fresh fruit, jams and tea and coffee. Breakfast seating is family-style, and a good time to get advice from Jaqui on neighborhood attractions and to chat with other guests. Several restaurants are less than a ten minute walk along calm residential streets and offer relaxed lunch and dinner menus and include al fresco seating. I was able to park every evening in the secured driveway with a 2-3 car capacity; otherwise parking is available around the corner at the Vineyard Hotel. The front yard garden has shade, appealing seating for reading or wifi web browsing and glimpses of nearby Table Mountain's back flanks, a reminder that Kirstenbosch Gardens are a short ten minute drive away. A thoroughly delightful home base for my too-brief stay in Newlands!
