This was our first time staying at the Amphitheater Backpackers Lodge, and while it was evident that the lodge has had moments of reaching absolute capacity and being very busy - it was quiet. This could be due to the pandemic and the fact that it is winter.
The service was fantastic - we imagine the bar, pool and restaurant area would be amazing during the summer.
The cleanliness and quality of our room was sufficient and acceptable - the quality one would expect from a backpackers.
The value you get for your money is incomparable. The location, the accessibility to walks and hikes, the stars, the view and the quiet is incredible.
The staff are ready to assist with any plans you may have. We decided to do the Tugela Falls hike (which was AMAZING) and the lodge organized transport to the hike, a guide and a packed lunch for us. Our guide was Musi, he was the perfect host. He was patient with our pace during the hike, told us interesting facts about the mountains and his hiking experience, and also gave us privacy to enjoy the views.
I cannot recommend this experience more. We can't wait to go back in the summer.
I travelled for a mountain race, so was just looking for a bed to sleep in and dinner before heading out to the race venue before dawn. The staff were super friendly, helpful and efficient. Ilsa is a character worth visiting for, and the vibe in the restaurant/bar area was tangible. You can't help but feel the fun, positive energy of the place and it brings the same out in the guests.
My room simple - a standard twin - but it was clean, warm and well situated in relation to the main building, considering it was raining for most of my stay. I didn't love the shared bathroom, but it is a backpackers lodge and a fabulous one at that. If you are looking for 5 star accommodation, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want to make memories and value good hospitality, then I would absolutely say try out Amphitheatre Backpackers, you won't regret it.
The pizza was delicious, the fire was warm and the company was fabulous ...and I travelled alone, so the venue gets 100% of the credit for the good stay I had.
Beautiful location. Beautiful venue and atmosphere for some drinks, views and the general chill. We got the economy twin room which was clean and neat, but tiny (understandable) and the bunk beds were quite wobbly. The first hour before sleep took me I was expecting the thing to break at any moment, but had no issues.
People are friendly and the food was okay. nothing wrong with it but definitely on the budget side of things. The chips were overly spiced up and I had to eat my fiancé's portion but it was okay for me with the drink.
We had a short 20min walk to the little pond before sundown and it was lovely.
Overall there are some minor room (excuse the pun) for improvement but it definitely scores points and makes up for it with the location and atmosphere it has. They just need to be careful not to rest on their laurels too much and try to adjust their kitchen a little bit.
A small tv in the room would be appricieted. other than that thier facility is of great standard and their prices are affordable. the place is easy to find and well equiped, we had a great time with the band. Thank you for an amazing time we shared.
We had an mazing stay, great value for money and breathtaking views. The room was clean, the service was great and the food was also really good. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great budget stay.
