We enjoyed our 1 night stay before leaving Costa Rica. Curubande is close to the airport yet out in the country. It is a working hay ranch. We saw two loads of hay being brought in as we were on our way to the river to take a swim. Gorgeous river and lovely walk while seeing the mountains of Rincon de La Vieja National Park in the distance. Eric was a very pleasant and helpful host. We enjoyed a lovely supper of red snapper. Our room was clean and very simple. Shower and bathroom were also clean and well kept up. This is not a fancy place but the kind of place we enjoy. We sat in the hammocks and chairs on the wide veranda outside our room. At night we could see the stars in a way we never can at home. Eric is very willing to help with travel arrangements to other parts of Costa Rica if you need that help. The breakfast was good.
We stayed one night, November 26, 2016 before leaving Costa Rica. The room was very average. We had one of the two bedroom casitas for the four of us. We could not get the hot water to work. There is some kind of contraption you have to use to get hot water. No hot water piped to the kitchenette sink or bathroom sink. The owners of the hotel were very nice and accommodating. They had a wonderful Costa Rican breakfast ready for us early so we could get to airport on time. We also enjoyed their labrador retriever who visited us on our porch. Owner also gave us a good recommendation for dinner in Liberia.
This is a basic lodge a short distance north of Liberia and off the highway. It is good for travelers who are on a budget. The rooms are basic and clean. It is quiet here so this is the place if you would like to get away from it all. If you get a room near the reception area you will be able to pick up wifi in your room. The room comes with a typical breakfast (meaning don't expect too much). You will need a car to get here and worth the drive
nice and helpful staff, our room was totally ok with the by far biggest shower I have ever seen :-)
good place if you want to visit rincon de la vieja (and have a car)
breakfast didn't excite us too much
We stayed here 2 nights in February. The rooms had air conditioning and hot water. The room was clean. The owner was extremely helpful. He let us use his personal phone to make a reservation for a tour, drove us to a nearby restaurant, and gave us great recommendations! The free breakfast that was served was good as well. The hotel is very peaceful. There are chairs and hammocks to sit on outside your room. It was very quite. There is free wifi in the common areas. Although they don't advertise free wifi in the rooms, our room (room 3) was close to the reception area and we were able to receive wifi in our room. They provide soap and shampoo in the room. You will need to bring a hair dryer and conditioner. This hotel is close to Rincon de Vieja. You NEED a car though! We never made it to the private river, but we heard it was great!
