Great customer service , Free bicycles on premise so I didn’t have to rent them for the week, great breakfast with bagels coffee and orange juice every morning, Motel provided beach badges so I didn’t have to pay for them, great courtyard for barbecuing and my kids enjoyed it. Will go back on vacation there next year

I have been going to Lorry's several times each summer since 2005. The rooms are always clean and the staff is attentive to the guests' needs- all you have to do is just ask them if you have a question or problem. The information book provided in each room covers everything from places of Worship/Grocery Stores /restaurants/ to the hotel's continental breakfast each morning and the exchange of bath towels as needed.The Website covers most questions guests could have-room rates; available bicycles and the 3 grills in the courtyard for guest use. In spite of the Pandemic, I was able to have a relaxing time away enjoying the beach and garden courtyard at the Motel.

I wrote this review in my head during the two sleepless nights I endured in possibly the worst mattress I've every slept on in a freezing cold room with water dripping on to the bed from the A/C vent.
LBI is expensive and there's not a lot of hotels, so I get the allure of this hotel, but - either save up for a weekly house rental or check out another place. Because at $250 a night, they weren't giving this room away and it's about one step up from camping. So - if you want to "glamp" - at least it's got a bathroom, a roof over your head, a fridge and a TV.
The Pros: Owner seemed like a nice guy, very short walk to the beach, quiet Holgate section, bikes provided at no charge (? - don't know didn't use one). I think it's pet friendly, so if you want to bring a pet, I guess that would be ok, the guest next to our room had a small dog. Dated ugly room, but clean. Decent looking grills available in the basically nice courtyard area.

The Cons: Horribly bad mattress - felt like I was sleeping on concrete. No blanket, just a fitted sheet, top sheet and the bedspread. Do they wash the bedspread after every guest? I hope so, as I was forced to use it as the room was freezing. No in room controls for the A/C, we had to open windows to make it bearable. Flat and hard pillows. No maid service. You have to turn your own towels into the office each day - not horrible, but the staff person gave me new towels that I didn't notice didn't include wash cloths. No hand towels for the bathroom were every provided. The bathroom is tiny - can barely seat yourself on the toliet. As I wrote previously, the a/c vent dripped waters onto the bed. Weird configuration to the room - about 12 inch space between the bed to the corner you have to turn to get into the bathroom/table area. So you kinda have to shimmy sideways. The room is pretty shabby, which would have been bearable if it hadn't been freezing, there had been a blanket and the mattress wasn't soooo uncomfortable. Oh, and the fly swatter on the wall was just gross to have to look at. Didn't look used, but like...still.

I would go again to LBI for a weekend trip, just not to this hotel again. I think there has to be better options.

Dear Trip Advisor, I am sorry that we did not connect with this Guest on a positive note like most Guest Reviews on Trip Advisor with ratings of a 4 or 5. I am happy though that this Guest said that Lorry’s Motel Has Clean Rooms and I Thank Lorry’s Staff for doing Great Covid19 Cleaning in Lorry’s Motel rooms. As I write this response Lorry’s Motel is 100% Occupied, and our “Million Dollar” 4 BR 2 BA Beach Rental House is also 100% occupied until the middle of October, and already has a number of reservations for next year 2021 season. I live across the street and I am a very hands on owner, on and off Lorry’s Motel property many times during the day and the night. My cell phone number is posted everywhere (5 places) at Lorry’s Motel. It is on Lorry’s Motel Sign outside the building, posted outside Lorry’s Office in 2 places, posted in the Free Continental Breakfast area, and the Guest Vacation Book in every room. This Guest said that Lorry’s Owner (me) seemed like a nice guy (Thank You)! But you know that I am the owner, yet you never brought any of these issues to my attention and gave me or my staff a chance to fix them. I say to every Lorry’s Motel Guest and Potential Guest, “If You Have An Issue While At Lorry’s Island End Motel, not handled by our Great Staff, please Tell Me while I am on Lorry’s Motel property, or call me on my cell phone number which is posted in Five (5) places on Lorry’s Property”. If I (or my staff) would have been given the opportunity by this Guest to help with their issues, I would have easily solved every issue quickly, if I was given the opportunity to know of the issue while this Guest was here. I will address this Guest’s issues as follows: 1) Too cold in the room – If I would have known about this issue, I would have explained to this Guest that YES Guests Can Control The Temperature in every room by closing or opening the A/C Vent. If I would have known of the issue, I would have shut the A/C vent in the room which would have warmed the room up quickly. Also, I would have explained to this Guest about closing and opening the A/C Vent to warm up or cool their room. 2) No blanket in the room – If I would have known about this issue, Lorry’s Staff (or I) would have given this Guest a blanket kept in Lorry’s Office. It is the warm summer season now and blankets are not kept in Lorry’s Motel rooms. Blankets are available by asking Lorry’s Staff, Lorry’s Office, or myself to give this Guest some warm blankets. 3) Hard bed in the room – If I would have known about this issue, Lorry’s Motel has an extra bed stored for this type of possible issue. I would have instructed Lorry’s Staff to replace the bed – or turn the mattress over as Lorry’s Motel beds are made two-sided for this reason in the factory. 4) No daily maid service – Lorry’s Motel was the first “Green Motel” 30 years ago on Long Beach Island. Because the wastewater flows into the bay we don’t wash the sheets every day, but We Do Exchange towels, wash cloths, etc, and linens upon request, which is reasonable. Our no daily maid service policy is clearly explained on Lorry’s Motel Website many places. In summary, I think a Guest should bring these issues to the Owner’s attention, or any of Lorry’s Motel Great Staff, and we would have solved all of this Guest’s issues if we would have known about them while this Guest was here. I know I can’t make every Guest happy, but myself and my staff sure try to help every Guest. On the wall in our Office are lots of hand written notes to Thank Lorry’s Owner and Lorry’ Staff for helping Lorry's Guest have a Great Long Beach Island Vacation at Lorry’s Island End Motel. I would ask this Guest call me, Bill Hutson – Owner, on our published Lorry’s Motel Phone Number and make another reservation with me, and I will make every effort to help this Guest have a Great Long Beach Island Vacation at Lorry's Island End Motel. I love this place! I stayed there two years ago and had a wonderful time. The room had a full sized fridge for seafood leftovers from dinner and a microwave to heat them up for lunch. I had planned at least 2 trips to LBI this summer - one with my husband and another with a couple of close girl friends - and the pandemic ended it for us. We live in Michigan and that is just too far to travel away as we would have to stop too many places to get there and I would not fly for all the tea in China. I look forward to next year when things are better so I can take those trips and stay at Lorry's!

Reasonablely priced, clean, homey, close to the beach and a wonderful staff. The coffee bar in the morning is not to be missed. The owner is a great guy and the hole staff bent over backward to ensure a great visit. The Atlantic Ocean is such a treat for this Midwesterner and you can hear the crash of the surf from Lorry's. You can't go wrong to stay there!

CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK THERE THIS SUMMER SEASON! The staff, location and amenities all get 5 STAR RATINGS.It is the "BEST VALUE ON THE ISLAND! Room accomodations are terrific. The courtyard is quaint and comfortable. The owner Bill aims to please.
