My family and I travel to Bryson City in the spring usually we needed a break so we tried several places as we usually stay closer to town we found a cabin here The Bear Den when I called the person on the other end was nice and very helpful. If you stay in The Bear Den make sure to remember the cut off your traction control as it is on a pretty good incline ( steep grade) but doable. We found the cabin clean and very quiet we enjoyed our stay plenty of room for family of 4 we enjoyed the hot tub. The fire pit could have been a little closer grass needed cutting but over all nice . If you going rafting this is the place to stay.
We were expecting this to be very nice since it was nearly four hundred dollars a night after all fees. Please know that the owners are nice and friendly, so I do not want to discourage people from going, I would go back if it was HALF this price, or included some excursion...this is just INCREDIBLY expensive for what it is. We stayed in the Wolf cabin. It has no views. We have 5 in our family. It says max 8. This would not ever be possible: there are only 6 dining chairs (at a true 4-top table) There is only one couch in the living room (a futon) which again, for a cabin max sleeps 8 is insufficient. This cabin has a small (max 4-6 ppl) jacuzzi which was serviced while we were there. It shares a fire pit with the cabin next door which is very close to Wolf Den (we could hear their music from our porch). The pictures make it look new. It is not. It’s not that it’s dramatically old, but for this rate I expected more comfortable bedding and furniture. The beds and the bedding are a step up from camping. It’s adequate for a mountain cabin, it’s remarkably dated for this price.
First starters let's just say the manger of the property i was dealing with first mistake was taking money out my bank account without authorization however we got that portion squared away actually was even able to up grade however the up grade was not up to par as it should be i stayed in cabin #8 It was an the extreme amount what looks to like to be a large dog hair everywhere my linens looked very stained an worn out thanks goodness i brought our own the WIFI is HORRIBLE let's get to the jacuzzi it worked for the first 3 days after that it wouldn't heat up not even to a Luke warm temperature the kitchen appliances were very disappointing all rusted appliances dishes in cabinet (cups @ mugs) upon getting to the cabin were filthy there also was a used towel on the back of the second bedroom door the couch an recliner is on its last leg I'm very disappointed this cabin is not up to par when it comes to the price definitely not worth $375 a night barely any Christmas decorations kids were disappointed
Wife and I booked cabin #5 "gone biking" for two nights Dec 2018 for romantic retreat. Extremely nice staff. Very close to the NOC, only a couple miles down hwy74 along river. Best part about cabins is privacy and hot-tubs!! Hot tub was spotless clean and on private covered back deck. Lots of space between cabins so you don't hear or see neighbors much. Not really a view anywhere but secluded.
Inside, cabins are rustic and dated-no frills. Small kitchenette and sitting area with old futon couch with duvet' cover. Had Basic older fridge and older electric cook top, basic pots and pans. Décor is older 80's style camper. Heating is from old holiday inn style wall heater and small gas fireplace furnace but it all worked very well! LED TV and direct TV with great reception. Bathroom was most modern and most recently updated. Everything was reasonably clean and functional.
Bottom line, if you want a nice basic camping experience in-doors with a great hot-tub it is perfect!! There is a $100 cleaning fee added to rate so be aware. They can provide wine and chocolate covered strawberries to room too..highly recommend this!!
Jeannette was more than accomodating! such little touches meant so much. there is even a journal for all that stay in each room to write notes for the next guest.. so cool! comfortable and cozy - just like the pictures.. cant wait to return to Nantahala and stay again!
