We visited Chillagoe as part of the Savannahlander train package. Our tour of Chillagoe, accommodation there and meals were hosted by Caroline, such an amazing person who owns and operates Chillagoe Cabins. The cabins are immaculate complete with ensuite bathroom, and the meals were an experience indeed . A surprise to have a table cloth and serviettes setting the dining room theme at such a remote location, and indeed the meals & breakfast were truly superb. All prepared and served by Caroline who had not long beforehand, collected us from Almaden station then taken us on a comprehensive tour of Chillagoe village including the caves. Not to forget the quirky, amazing collection of old Ford vehicles in the village. Caroline is an amazing host & most knowledgeable tour operator.
With extensive highway upgrades from Almaden in progress, the future looks good for tourism in Chillagoe & for even further potential of the Chillagoe Cabins
We are left with wonderful memories of this place and will recommend to others.
Carolyn has created this perfect little oasis in the dry country, all we wanted to do was chill around the room and the pub this weekend. I loved the rooms and the gardens there was nothing to criticise and I have a very good eye for detail and this place has got very nice detail and the old school touch an old thriving historical town should have, I have visited Chillagoe a few times and the cabins is where I will always stay in the future! Thank you for making my weekend :)
We had the pleasure of travelling to Chillagoe from Cairns with our grandkids aged 6 and 2 over the Easter school holidays.
We visited all three caves which we all enjoyed very much. Our night accommodation was very comfortable a nice large queen size bedroom, two single beds, kitchenette, shower/toilet and room to walk around with comfort. The rustic cabin was very clean and comfortable, we rested well that night. The kids had a lovely swim in the ever so crystal clean pool and the main cooking area was very clean and well equipped.
I recommend the Chillagoe Cabins for an overnight stay or for all the time you were to stay in Chillagoe.
We arrived there after a long, long, did I mention long? trip to Chillagoe, and we were very well welcomed by the cute cockies Andrew and Jenny. Andrew will say "Hello" while Jenny spreads her wings, you can't beat that.
The owner was really helpful and attentive. She spent with us quite some time to explain what could be done in the village, what to visit and which was the best moment/way to so.
The place was pretty with so many plants and so well kept despite the kangaroos that attack them. In a place as dry as Chillagoe it looks like a little oasis.
The room was very nice, tidy, comfortable and the little kitchenette had all the things needed to make your own meal and keep water cool. There is also a corner with a couple of small armchairs and a TV and air-conditioning.
We spent two nights there so didn't really have a chance to use the outside BBQ or the swimming pool. It was winter too so that didn't encourage us either ^^
I believe there is some kind of 'restaurant' service at the place but nothing in the menu got our attention. I think there are better and more convenient places in town for breakfast&meals.
No wifi,.. but our phones didn't have reception in the whole village so...
I really recommend this place if you will stop by Chillagoe.
I hope the new owners (as it is for sale) will take care of the place and keep the same standards.
Two 'ol gals' took a flying road trip out to Chillagoe for just one day while having a week in Cairns, and we 'struck it rich' when we found Carolyn and Hope,at Chillagoe Cabins.
Carolyn has a wealth of knowledge and love of this area, and gave us great advise about visiting the incredible balancing rock, and viewing the sunset from the lookout.
One day was nowhere near enough time to spend there, and Carolyn is the guide to have.
We had a delicious dinner cooked for us in the outdoor dining room, and then a very comfortable nights rest in excellent beds (better than our motel in Cairns). The linen and bedding was spotless as was the entire cabin.
I only wish we had more time to stay, but next time I visit I will definitily be booking Carolyn's Chillagoe Cabins.
