My husband and I are repeat patrons for over 20 years. We recently visited the Black Hills and stayed at Deadwood Super 8. The hotel was as usual very clean, the pool and hot tub were very inviting!!! Breakfast include cereal, breakfast bars, cinnamon rolls, muffins, yogurt, juice, milk and coffee. It was enough to get you started but sure did miss boiled eggs.
I want to say that the employees are the most friendliest and helpful people and make the visit most enjoying. I can't remember all of them, but Jeannie and Connie on the front desk, all the casino employees all are great!!!!!
It's a great place to stay, relax and enjoy the beauty of the Hills!!!
As a family of 6 with 4 younger kids, these are my standard hotel requirements: pool/hot tub, included breakfast, quiet/safe, and clean. This Super 8 failed on 3 of those 4 requirements. The hot tub was closed and drained. We were not told this when booking, and no money was offered as a refund. I wouldn't have booked here at all without a hot tub. The breakfast is terrible. TERRIBLE. It's a bottle of water (???), a granola bar, and an awful muffin. The in-room coffee is also terrible. Yes, I understand changes are needed due to Covid, but we stayed at many hotels on this particular trip, and each hotel other than this one offered more of a variety and at least one hot item. We had to get breakfast elsewhere, adding to what I perceive to be the cost of the room. Around 1 AM, we were awakened by a large, loud group. I assume they were coming back from the bar as they sounded quite drunk. Our room was very near the front desk. There is no way the front desk employee didn't hear this group that stood outside our room for 10-15 minutes talking. No employee came to suggest they head to their room. Our room was clean, so no complaints there, but they leave the door to the pool open, so the steps are wet and slippery and never dry out. Be aware that there is no elevator and that the hotel is terribly out of date with decorations, especially the carpet. TV's are updated, though, and large.
The benefit to this hotel is that there were three beds in the room versus most hotels that offer two beds and then a pull out. It was nice that our family of 6 could all be in real beds. That was appreciated.
This was our most expensive hotel on our stay throughout South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming, and it was also the worst. I guess you pay to be in Deadwood. If possible for your trip, I'd recommend just visiting Deadwood but staying in Rapid City or Hill City or anywhere else but Deadwood if you are a family with younger kids. Lesson learned.
Hotel was very accommodating and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The casino was small but with a variety of machines. The pool and hottub looked very inviting, however, we did not use them. Great deck overlooking creek. Trolley comes by frequently to take you into town.
This was our second time staying at this Super 8. After our fantastic experience the first time, we didn't even check around for other hotels and just booked with the Super 8. Everything at this Super 8 is top notch from check-in to check out. You will find some of the most pleasant and friendly employees of any hotel I have stayed at. They are willing to go above and beyond to help out; be it providing directions, recommendations on attractions, verifying satisfaction with your stay, etc. I could rant and rave on the employees this entire review; but you'll see the friendliness for yourself when you arrive. The rooms are spacious and modern. The room was spotless. The beds are amazing. The amenities at the hotel are great; hot tub, pool, casino (slots only), diner, bar, and free breakfast overlooking the beautiful scenic creek. Your money will last longer at the small casino here, than it will other places in town. The food at the diner is prepared fresh, filling portions, and reasonably priced. The attendants in the slot area are very prompt with drink orders when you sit down to play the machines. I cannot reiterate enough the "down-home" welcome feeling you get at this hotel during your stay. This Super 8 is the true definition of southern hospitality, just a little west geographically. I don't see how you couldn't be satisfied with your stay at this facility. When booking my next Deadwood trip, I won't look anywhere other than Super 8 Deadwood for my lodging accommodations. Thanks again for a great overall experience. A true gem within the Wyndham family. Keep up the good work!!
This was our second stay here. The off-season rates just kicked in, so it was a great deal for 2 nights. Got a 1 king-bed room on the main floor - creek side. Still a great base to call home while visiting the area - indoor pool & hot-tub, good breakfast, small casino and nice patio by the creek. Skip housekeeping for a day and get a coupon for a free drink or pizza.
