First of all, BEWARE the 5-day cancellation policy. The standard in the industry is 1 or 2 days. I believe they know what people expect, that they will not read through the fine print, then will be TRICKED into paying for a room they no longer want or need. They can then sell the room to someone else and collect double. This is what happened to me - 4 days prior to the reservation, my plans changed, I did not really need two rooms anymore, but to appeal this to customer service is useless. No way, no exceptions.
So, I did show up and this was the rest of my experience. LONG check-in line, the experience was like at a Las Vegas hotel. I had requested a crib. Sorry, no cribs or roll-away beds left at 4 p.m., it is first-come, first served. I had requested connecting rooms - sorry, we don't have those either. Actually the check-in clerk made me hopeful about getting a crib, but when I called the guest hotline later I got major attitude as if I was lying about what the clerk told me, since the cribs were long gone.
Also, I had requested king beds thinking there would be crib and maybe a pull-out sofa. We could not change to queen beds. They said there were no queen rooms left - anywhere in this ginormous hotel.
And by the way, no microwave in the rooms so it is not particularly family-friendly for heating up milk or formula.
And, the parking is super expensive.
The one silver lining was an excellent breakfast buffet, though it was not without its own management issues since there were no tongs for the muffins and bread, and they completely ran out of watermelon early during service - we got the last few pieces.
So, this was a big Thanksgiving disappointment and I doubt I will ever return to this property.

Dear krepki, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry for your poor experience back in November of 2019. We do have a variety of rates and programs that often require a cancellation period further out and are listed at the time of when reservations are made. We have shared your experience with our team. We do have a 24 hour guest service hotline service we encourage all of our guests to use while in the hotel so we may address any needs our guests may have immediately. Thank you for staying with us and we hope we have another opportunity to serve you when your travels bring you back to Houston. Again, our apology. If you are going to Houston, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AT THE HILTON AMERICAS! I arrived late Wednesday night after 2 rough flights and the gentleman at the desk recognized this and got me up to my room immediately. I needed distilled water, so I went to multiple drugs stores in the area. Each store had none. I received a text from Kaneshia asking if there was anything she could do to make my stay more comfortable. I simply asked if she could direct me to another store where I could find distilled water. Alejandra texted me back and said they had some for me. I was so excited and grateful I said I would run back to the hotel to get it.They said no need it is already in your room. I was shocked to say it was. I have stayed at NUMEROUS hotels and I can say without ANY HESITATION that the housekeeping was SECOND TO NONE. My room, my tolietries and other personal items WERE ALWAYS clean and organized when I returned. One morning, I was feeling ill and Nicole in R24 made sure I left with some healthy foods and beverages to get through the day at my convention. This ALONE turned my day around. When I came back that evening to my room, there was a fruit basket and mineral water along with a personal note from Nicole, wishing me well. I also got a chance to eat at 1600 Bar+Grille. Lora there was by far one of the most welcoming, jovial hostesses I have ever met! She was kind enough to get a friend of mine a beverage and when I was embarrassed to ask for ice, her kind words and smile put me at ease. On my final day, I had the GREAT pleasure of talking to Concierge Barbara. I just wanted to tell her how much I enjoyed my stay and we ended up chatting for 30-45 minutes. She felt like an aunt that I had known for years and to whom I could tell anything. As I matter of fact, I joined Hilton Honors, JUST BECAUSE OF MY EXPERIENCE AT THE HILTON AMERICAS-HOUSTON. It is my sincere hope that I have to come back to Houston soon JUST SO I CAN STAY AT THE HILTON AMERICAS-HOUSTON! And while the hotel itself was EXEMPLARY, I really want to go back to see the fine men and women on the staff who have become my friends!

Starting with check-in, the customer service was great. I asked for a microwave and they brought it immediately. The city had a big water main break that affected the quality of the water at the hotel. They jumped in immediately and gave us all as many bottles of water that we needed. Hotel room was spotless and very comfortable. Check out was a breeze too. The restaurant in the hotel was also was very accommodating to my food allergies.
