We checked into the Candlewood Suites and our room was extremely dirty. The shower curtain actually had blood on it and a 2in stream of toothpaste that someone had squeezed out the toothpaste tube. In addition there so much dust on top of the fridge you could write in it, the fridge was dirty and had several leftover foodstuffs, the microwave had splatters all over it, the floor was sticky, and our potato peeler was so rusted it was unusable. We checked in about midnight, so I called the next day to ask thsee issues be taken care of, the only thing the Housekeeping did was make our bed and change out the shower curtain..... everything else wasn't touched. Saturday morning we walked outside and the stench of smoke was unbearable. We actually thought the housekeeping ladies were smoking in the hall. When we came back about 3 p.m., the stench of smoke had not subsided. We called the front desk and found out that there are smoking rooms on every every floor. They put some type of device in the hall that was supposed to make the smoke better, but our hotel room still reeked of smoke.... it smelled like a den of iniquity. We called and asked that they put something in our room, and the manager said they could only put a smoke dispenser in a room for an hour because it was expensive. The best part was, the manager called me back from a bar and admitted he was in a bar. I would think that you could actually walk outside and make a phone call in a professional manner. Simply saying that what we wanted was way too expensive, and we would have to deal with smoke until tomorrow....is inexcusable. The best part was we asked to be moved about 3 p.m., and the manager said no. So it was definitely his fault we weren't moved to an acceptable room, I'm sure they just didn't want to be out the additional money, which they would probably make plenty of money if they provided decent service. The best part is, our insurance is going to move us to a different hotel that is non-smoking, and we are definitely going to let our insurance company know what a terrible experience we've had. They would probably make a lot of additional money, if they just helped their guests out by providing clean rooms and hotel floors that were non-smoking. In addition to everything else, we have a couple lights out, and the the thermostats on the wall were completely dead, dents in the walls, and the hooks on the back of our bathroom door were missing. Overall this hotel feels extremely run down although I think it's fairly new.
