First of all, can I just say that we have been Ski Miquel customers for nearly 20 years. We have had at least 15 holidays at the Tannenburg, In this time we have normally been with a group of friends varying in size between 8 and 18 people. We have seen 6 resort managers in this time. 3 of them, my wife and I can call good friends, I also worked at the chalet for a season. I can honestly say the resort is one of the best. Skiing is fantastic, the resort, bars, nightclubs and restaurants are all brilliant and I treat the resort like a 2nd home.
The food this year was amazing, some of the best food we have had in all our visits.
What I am about to say now about the Tannenburg, I feel, is a fair reflection on what has to be said. Over the last 2 years, the price to stay at the Tannenburg as shot up quite drastically, we always managed to get a good deal being in a group, but these deals are no longer available and the price we are now paying per person is getting quite high.
The chalet is now very tired, the decor has not really changed in the last 20 years, some of the shower rooms and bathroom have been modernised but the whole chalet is showing its age.
In my honest opinion, all rooms need to be redecorated, The hallway and stairs need decorating with new curtains and given a major facelift
The room that we stayed in this year (room 14). The bathroom smelled awful, no amount of bleach could get rid of the smell, every morning when we woke up, we had to prepare ourselves for the smell, our room door was warped so we could not shut the door, we had to lock the door to properly close it.
The towels feel like they have not been changed in years, the beds are OK but the wardrobes and bedside tables could be of a better quality and cleaned more regularly.
The hallway and stair carpets either need replacing or given a good clean as there are stains on them bringing down the appearance of the chalet.
When, as group, we payed lower prices for our holiday, you would put up with some of the negatives of the chalet. But now after speaking to other members of our group, the poor repair of the chalet is now becoming a major issue.
A few years ago, I would not hesitate in recommending the chalet to friends, now, I am sorry to say, I would not.
Hopefully we will still use Ski Miquel in the future, either staying in a Hotel in BG, or maybe going to another resort that they use.
Chalet has twenty rooms staff on site (chef, ski guide, chalet maids and bar manager). Wednesday night guests have to sort out feed arrangements
breakfast - fresh fruit would have been nice, also having to share jam and marmalade with the other tables was unhygienic and very disruptive during breakfast.
in our room it stated that room are cleaned daily, that was not the case. quilts are shaken, bathroom bin emptied and 1 loo roll left, no cleaning was done at all.
there are no kettles etc in rooms so you are reliant on breakfast and afternoon tea for a hot drink. it stated on menu each day with dinner you would get coffee after the postage stamp size cheese and biscuits, coffee never arrived.
one of our relatives had a very bad fall on the Wednesday, breaking her arm. finally got back to hotel really wanted a cup of tea, no facilities in room, no staff at all in hotel as its their day off, went to Spar to buy kettle etc. Perhaps staff should not all have the same day off, or at least leave guests access to hot water, tea, coffee cups etc. The concept is good, but needs updating and more thought.
We spent a fabulous week in the Chalet-Hotel Tannenburg over the Easter break. Which despite being the last week of the season - was snowing when we arrived.
The hotel itself is a great size, not too big and not too small. All the facilities you could need, with en-suite rooms, a cosy lounge area and a well-stocked bar. The staff were brilliant all week, despite being at the end of a long season still had plenty of smiles and time to give.
We were in a group with young children, which can make mealtimes tricky. But the chef prepared a kids menu to be served early with meals they loved, giving us time to get them off to bed before joining the rest of the adults for a 4-course evening meal. We felt very spoilt :)
The resort itself is great and easy to get too, with a short 5-10 minute walk (uphill) to the lift system or to the buses that take you to the other resorts covered on the same lift pass. There are plenty of runs to choose from, but Bad Gastein does suit skiers of an intermediate ability and above. Most of the runs are higher up the mountain, with blues that feel more like reds, so it's not ideal for nervous beginners who need a nursery slope to practice on.
Having said that our fearless 7 year old was up and down the mountain after his first day of ski school and had a great time :)
So a magical week of being pampered and spoilt, we'll definitely be going with Ski Miquel again.
went with my family ( 3 small children and husband) to chalet tannenburg with a big group of other friends and their families. We had such a brilliant holiday on a number of fronts. The chalet was excellent. Great beds and comfy duvets, plenty of space in our bedroom and nice bathroom. Delicious and varied 3 course meal each night with cheese and decent wine, plentiful breakfast and cakes and coffee in the afternoon. It had a lovely fire in the lounge and plenty of places to sit and socialise or chill out. Everyone could not have been more helpful and accommodating and Ski Miguel were absolutely fantastic with being helpful, attentive and fun! The chalet was well situated in the resort being only 5 minutes walk and we could leave skis near the lifts in the depot to save walking them up which was perfect. We truly had a great holiday and a lot down to the company, the chalet and the great snow!
Just back from a great week of skiing at the Tannenberg with Ski Miquel. The chalet is really well located, very quiet and has loads of character. Our room was big and airy with a great shower and had stunning views of the valley. The staff were brilliant as was the 5 days of ski guiding. Nice short transfer to Salzburg too! Thoroughly recommend Ski Miquel.
