Where do I begin?
I booked and paid for this room several months in advance, taking a chance on an "improving" property because it had a great arrangement: a two-bedroom suite. I thought this suite would be the perfect solution for my early-sleeper colleague and me—a night owl. However, the room was occupied when he tried to check in—oops. The desk clerk (who really did his best under the circumstances) said that someone had extended their reservation... okay, but I reserved and prepaid for that room, so the correct answer to the request to extend SHOULD have been: "Sorry, it's not available." Fail one.

After we agreed to a downgrade (and price adjustment) to a double queen room, my colleague was then sent out a second time, only to discover the room was filthy (see photos). Fail two. He found the third room clean, fortunately, and this is when I arrived at the hotel. I walked through the hotel and found several safety issues, including blocked fire exits, broken fire doors, and blocked sidewalks, along with dirt: dirty floors, dirty walls, dirty stairwells... Fail three.

I recognize that the new management is trying to improve this property, but they still have a long way to go. And for the snafu of giving our room away, I expected the manager to contact me and at least offer an apology, but no one ever contacted us, nor asked us how our stay was. Fail four.

The sole bright spot in the stay was the breakfast, which offered hot items, including biscuits and gravy.

Our room smelled like smoke and wasn’t very clean. The shower and A/C worked and the bed was comfortable. There was one person working at the desk. He was nice and friendly, although he couldn’t keep up with phone calls, garbage duty, replenishing the breakfast, etc by himself.

Stayed for one night. The place is in transition from fleabag drugtel to hotel. Room was clean, but bathroom and halls need to be updated. Lots of work still to be done but there is potential. Customer service was great, received a call from the desk after checkin to make sure we were satisfied. Overall, will stay again if in the area.

We do apologize if you were not totally satisfied with our hotel. We instituted a 30 mi radius among other filtering safe guards to stop any potential drug and unwanted actions and/or guests. It is true we are under renovations so we hope you visit again so you can share in all the improvements that have been made. We thank you for taking time out day to critique and give compliments about your stay. Sincerely, Front Office Manager, Timothy Duncan General Manager, Valerie Booker

Passing through so stayed one night. We weren't sure what to expect based on previous reviews, and whether it was actually an Econo Lodge, which it is(it seems to have recently changed from an independent hotel and the old signage is still on the side of the building). The elevator and hallways are older, but the room has been renovated with laminate flooring, newer furniture and decent bedding. The bathroom could use an update, but it's clean. The front desk staff were efficient and friendly, and it's obvious the manager is trying to improve the hotel's image with nice touches like individually-wrapped apples or chocolate chip cookies in the lobby along with self-serve ice water and coffee. We know that budget hotels can be hit-or-miss but this has been better than expected.
