As a person who travels the world and stays in hostels, motels, hotels, and resorts, I give this 2 stars. I came up with my family (4 adults and 1 child) and stayed in room 13 for the 4th of July (2020). We choose this place for location, pool, and good reviews.
Good: The room is spacious, the lobby has a nice lodge feel with fireplace, games, and several tables. Has 2 open closets with some hangers (one by bathroom, one by door). Great location on main strip. Pillows were fluffy (3 per bed).
Bad: The pool was closed which we weren't notified of when we booked nor was it on their website. The towels are small/thin and some marked with an "R" (meaning replace). The fridge doesn't get too cold, wasn't cold when we checked in, and the light switch turns the fridge on and off (lights need to be turned on and off manually). When we asked to have our room serviced the beds were not made nor any cleaning was done, only got new towels. There are no hooks or towel racks anywhere to hang your wet towels. The carpet was stained and dirty. Lagging wifi. Rarely was anyone around to help for assistance (I never saw anyone, and had to go to lobby then call someone to get toilet paper as none was filled when we got "service").
The rooms were clean and large in size. Don't know if we caught the Manager on duty on an off time but she was very rude and short with the guests. When we arrived and walked in she goes "What do you want" Told her we had reservations she said "I don't think your rooms ready" very sharp and walks away. Comes back about 10 minutes later and gave us our keys. The next morning there was about 3 or 4 guests plus myself about 8:00 in the morning she came out of her room very sharply ask "Are you all waiting for coffee" She came back with a half of a carafe of coffee. Then almost yells at us "is this enough or do I have to make more. One of the guest asked for more and she huffed off. Another guest said she has been coming foe 20 years and has never had service like this. The pool room was so hot you literally could not breath in it, so we could not use that either. We had reservations for 3 days we ended up leaving after 1 night. Which was fine with her she still got paid for 3 night and only had to clean the room for one night.
We stayed here two nights in October. Check in went smoothly even though we were early. The gal at the front desk was friendly and efficient. Loved the high ceilings in the rooms. The room was on the large size and so was the bathroom. Nice long countertop for all our bathroom supplies. Everything was clean and well kept up. The beds were very comfy as were the pillows. We had a nice and quiet couple of nights there. This motel is right on the main drag of Boulder Junction so it's handy to just walk to stores, restaurants, etc. We took full advantage of that. They have an indoor pool and hot tub too although we didn't get the time to use it. There's plenty of supper clubs and restaurants to drive to also, many on a lake. Make sure you explore on Highway K when you're there. It's beautiful and a designated rustic road in Wisconsin. Some great stops along the highway including an old General Store that still functions. We would definitely stay at the Acorn again. And let me say I hope we do!
Up north for some lake time-
Ran into an issue that required us to get a hotel for the eve.
Go to- Acorn.
Not fancy, but comfortable, clean and always consistent. A bit steep for the room, but the staff are super sweet- pool and hot tub a must- and room was perfect for a nights stay.
We'll be back if the situation arises, with no qualms whatsoever.
The hospitality is exceptional here. They accommodated our very late arrival. We had the king room with whirlpool tub. The room was huge. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. We found the rates to be very reasonable. The breakfast is not much--packaged muffins, instant oatmeal, granola bars and coffee. It was good for a quick start, which was all we actually needed. The lobby was lovely. We didn't get a chance to use the pool. The wi-fi worked very well for us. We are in this area every year and would definitely stay here again.
