We had mixed opinions of our stay however my lasting thoughts were not good at all as when we got back to the UK we realised we had left our children's swimwear by the pool. The hotel confirmed that they had the clothes but even after saying I would pay for any packaging and postage (before or after posting) they still refused to return the clothes. When I queried why this was the case they just ignored by emails and the last 2 emails I sent I am still yet to receive any response. We were just very shocked to receive such bad customer service especially based on how much money we had just spent there. It was not like we were asking them to pay for the postage. I think this is unacceptable.
In respect of our stay there were some pros:
- beautiful pool area
- lovely buffet (although see below if not included in your package)
- hotel is right on the beach
- Good kids entertainment programme in Spanish (some staff speak English but you will need to check if this is essential for your children)
Unfortunately also lots of cons:
- Our room/apartment looked nothing like the pictures when booking it (so much smaller). We complained and finally 2 days before we were due to leave we were offered an alternative room by this time the upheaval of moving with 2 kids meant it wasn't worth it.
- The room had a small kitchen area including a hob but no crockery, pans, utensils, cutlery, glasses etc etc. We were told that the kitchen area was not designed for use??????
- The TV in our room didn't work properly and we were told that was just how it was.
- The sofa bed in the "suite/apartment" was extremely uncomfortable
- We didn't book half or full board and the buffet is extremely expensive (we paid over Euros 130 for 2 adults and 2 children with a few drinks - unfortunately we didn't ask the price when we sat down)
- The resort is in the middle of nowhere really with a very limited number of alternative places to go. Luckily about 20 minutes walk there is a sort of shopping centre with a few restaurant more reasonably priced restaurants but lots of building work going on so not such a relaxing experience.
- The resort needs more food snack options i.e. by the pool etc
All in all, we were very disappointed mainly because it has the potential of being amazing but unfortunately is anything but.
I can only just bring myself to write this review, 3 months after our visit here which completely ruined our holiday to Spain. We spent a week in Marbella but chose to drive 5 hours up to Olivia Nova Beach & Golf Hotel to View it as a wedding venue, and then fly back from Alicante. The second we walked in, we were treated like we were unwelcome, trashy holiday makers, like dirt on somebody’s shoe. I’m lucky enough to spend a lot of time in five star hotels across the world, but this place is not even one star. We perhaps looked a little disheveled having spent 5 hours driving here and I tried to put it down to that. We were treated like walking cash machines, the staff were not interested in welcoming us and they gave me a HARD SELL of a room upgrade, saying if I didn’t pay to upgrade I would be given a bad room and she didn’t lie about that! When she gave up trying to sell me a room upgrade she stopped checking me in and I had to wait for someone else to serve me. The spa pool is not free, you have to pay, even though it was advertised as included. Hotels.com took this up with them. Our room had curtains falling off window, toilet would not flush and the lights didn’t work, I asked to move rooms but was told no, a maintenance man would come and fix the toilet, I was desperate for a shower but we had to wait an hour for the builder to come and fix the toilet. Five hours driving and no shower!!! I explained I needed to shower but was told I needed to wait. The entire hotel was empty apart from about 3 other guests so you can imagine how mean and nasty it felt that they would not move us. They hated us for not paying to upgrade and wanted to make us suffer. The beach was being packed up so no beach time for us, it was 6 September which we thought was a bit early for it to be packed up. The half board package we booked was a poor buffet and they refused to give us tap water, you had to pay for water. Everything felt horrible, like they were watching you and you felt so unwelcome. I explained we were there to view the place for a wedding, they didn’t care. At check out they didn’t even say good bye or thank you (or apologise for giving us the wrong bill) I have never met such nasty, cruel, people in my entire life as I did here. STAY AWAY!!! The pictures below are of the maintenance man fixing everything in our room.
Really surprised at some of the criticisms on here. We unexpected ended up here after the villa we booked turned out to be dreadful. The hotel were so helpful given it’s the horse show. Beautiful room, upgraded to a sea room. The food in the hotel isn’t great, but plenty of places to eat out nearby. The spa pool is really lovely. Really enjoyed our stay and we will be back.
I stayed in this hotel recently in a Classic Suite with private pool and it was gorgeous. The suite comprised of a living room/lounge with couch, armchair, table and chairs and TV. There was a terrace off the living room with another table and chairs. The bedroom had a superking bed, large wardrobe with mirrored doors and another large TV. There was a large bathroom with full bath and shower fittings overhead. There was also a tiny section incorporating a kitchenette with sink, 2 plate hob, kettle and small fridge/mini bar. I would point out though that there are no utensils at all in the kitchenette. In one corner of the living room was a stairs which led up to a terrace with a little pool, cabana, 2 sun beds and an outdoor shower.
The pool area in Hotel Oliva Nova is lovely, with lots of sun beds and a number of cabanas. The pool is free form and has an adjacent children’s pool. There is a bar located close to the pool. The beach is just outside the hotel with it’s own access gate, operated with your room key. There is a beach bar just on the beach and a couple of others further down the beach. The beach itself is beautiful and very clean.
We had dinner in the Commercial Centre a few minutes walk away from the hotel. Breakfast the following morning was very nice with plenty of choice. I particularly liked the pastry section. Coffee was self service from different machines throughout the room. Teas were also provided at different tables strategically placed in the room.
The staff were all very pleasant and always looked you in the eye when greeting you. All in all, I loved this hotel and will return as soon as I can manage it!
This was my first stay at Oliva Nova. I wanted a self-contained hotel where I could relax for three days and recover from transatlantic jet lag. Oliva Nova was perfect!
Elisa welcomed me and spoke excellent English. I was assigned a classic double room on the 3rd floor in block two overlooking the cabanas and pools. At sunset I enjoyed stunning mountain views from both the east balcony and the west corridor.
The breakfast buffet set me up for the day. Spain was in a heat wave so the abundant juices and water could be stored in the room's fridge. A short, groomed walk over the dunes led to a pristine beach where people carried their own umbrellas and mats - informal and free of the usual beach clutter. The afternoon sea breeze brought out colourful kite surfers from the nearby club. The hotel courtyard had live music concerts at night and this was cheerful for someone travelling alone. All silent by midnight.
Amenities excellent: comfy beds and good pillows (a rare compliment); well-appointed bathroom with deep, refreshing bath. Spacious balcony.
This was high season and the hotel was fully booked. Clearly a favourite for families with small children. I look forward to returning to Oliva Nova! Thanks to everyone who works so hard to make it a happy and welcoming place.
