I stayed here only because lonely planet highly recommended it. There was a problem with my reservation and they had me in the system for the wrong nights. I called days earlier to make the change. the night manager Albert was very rude and threatened to call the police because of loitering while I was checking to see what had happened with the reservation. As it turns out, because i arrived late, which I emailed the hotel ahead of time, they sold my room to someone else! I have never had such a rude person in my life and will NEVER come back to San Antonio EVER. I will make sure everyone I knows this is the worst city in Texas full of unfriendly people. I had to sleep on the riverwalk because all the hotels were all full. I left the next morning unrested, smelly, and in complete shock that this could actually happen while on vacation.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel that we chose last minute because there was a show going on downtown we had tickets to attend. When we entered the room it smelled stale like old dirty air and the room felt moist. We ignored this because we didn’t plan on staying in the room long just sleeping in there. Our night goes on we stay. Then after check out we notice we got a $100 charge for something extra. There wasn’t any extra condiments in the room we used..we didn’t not vandalize the room or do anything we were not suppose to do on the room. For the room to be $197 for a view of the small price of the San Antonio tower and a wall..was not worth it at all..room was literally super small you could barely breath in there. When we asked the hotel clerk why we were charged $100 extra they said it was because we had smoked in the room. We did not smoke in the room. The room is so small I don’t even know why anyone would want to smoke in such a small room. The workers discriminated against us and ASSUMED we smoked in the room due to there be tobacco trash..not ashes..trash..that we left in the trash can..trash that we had removed from our car. So it was assumed smoking was done in the room. Which is t right. There wasn’t a sign that said please do not throw your tobacco trash in our trash cans. It just said no smoking in the room. The hotel clerk was very rude and so sure that we smoked in the room..with no proper evidence. We were not disrespectful at all..that is not in my nature. We were also called racial slurs by the workers. We are an African American couple. The establishment is ran by Hispanics. Such a shame with all that’s going on in the world today. So I scream to anyone considering staying in at this hotel...PLEASE DON’T. These people do not deserve your Garda works pay.
Booked this room at last minute and for being last minute, I must say it was wonderful. It surprised me because of many hotels I have visited, of the wonderful smell it had. Floral smell and very clean from the entrance, hallway to the rooms. Out of all the hotels I have been to, this has been the best one in regards to cleanliness and smell. No smoke smell whatsoever which was awesome. I give it a 5star on that. The only downside I guess it has is no breakfast. Although there is a grocery store right across the street. I do recommend this place and will probably stay there again.. Next time we will take our lunch or order pizza. Really enjoyed staying here!
Never stay here. The attendant, "Al," was utterly verbally inappropriate upon our arrival at midnight and kept us there to talk to us angrily about politics (and specific things I'm interested in - it seemed like he had searched for me online before I arrived) for 20 minutes, wouldn't stop staring at my girlfriend, and seemed to not be able to stay on topic whatsoever. Less severely, there was paper trash that I found in my room. However, the main concern that caused me to leave was that security measures were not up to par - there was no lock not accessible to the outside; the only locking mechanism was a lock accessible via swipe card and there was not an extra deadbolt, security chain, or security bolt, as there should've been, as stated on the plaque on the door. I expressed my concern to the attendant, asked if there were any rooms with proper door security, and was told that there were not. He told me I would not be charged, and I left. I was charged. After 3 weeks of being given the run-around by this location, being hung up on, having them withhold the manager's name and contact information, and telling me repeatedly that they are "independently owned" and therefore did not have to help me, I was finally able to contact the manager who told me I had "profiled" the attendant and that I could file a report with my bank, although she said she is "not afraid of banks" and said I was "threatening" her by telling her that I would. My claim with my bank is still open. This location is definitely unsafe given their inappropriate staff and reluctance to follow safety protocol and care for their patrons. I have never had to deal with a company this inappropriate and incompetent, and have never needed to negatively review any sort of business. This hotel is uniquely inadequate.
This is a good hotel if you're booking at the last minute or on a budget. It's about 2 miles from the downtown area of San Antonio. It is convenient for events at the Alamodome. The facility is very clean. Drawbacks would be that there are no restaurants nearby in easy walking distance. Remember summer days here are always near 100°. The room we had didn't have any closet or wardrobe you could hang clothes in. The modest vanity area had no storage area except around the sink. The average woman would have a problem just doing her makeup. Overall not bad for the price but next time I think we'll stay closer to the Rio San Antonio River Center part of town.
