We stayed here for two nights in August as part of a tour of France. We had a room on the third floor, it was basic but clean and comfortable. No fridge or safe but it did have a kettle. I booked the hotel mainly because it has a pool, it can be very hot in France in high summer and our daughter likes to swim. The pool is not huge, but it is big enough to swim properly in and we appreciated being able to cool off after a day sightseeing in the town. Dijon is a very attractive town, we followed the Owl trail which covers the main sights, you can buy the guide book from the tourist office for €3.50. The hotel is located about 2 miles outside the centre, we arrived into Dijon at the train station Dijon Ville which is about 3 miles from the hotel, so we caught tram 1 from outside the station and got off at the nearest tram stop to the hotel (Gresilles) and walked from there, about 15 minutes. Obviously this hotel is more convenient for people with their own transport as it is close to the motorway network. There isn’t a lot close to the hotel, there are two chain restaurants opposite, Courtpeille and a fish restaurant, you get 15% off of you are staying at the Holiday Inn. There is a small Carrefour in a nearby residential street. If you have a chance, it is worth a stroll down to the war memorial around the corner dedicated to 126 resistance martyrs. Dijon has plenty of good places to eat, we had a nice meal at Chez Leon, and happy hour drinks at Au Bureau. The hotel serves a decent breakfast with plenty of choice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in Dijon, I would have liked an extra day to go and explore the lake, so maybe we will return.
We chose this hotel for a stopover on our way to the Alsace. Conveniently located near the motorway. Very nice welcome. I had asked for a quiet room and was given one. Clean and comfortable room. Bathroom ok but mold showing in the shower and very noisy toilet seat. Breakfast was adequate, with again friendly and professional staff. Pool looked ok, but we didn't use it. Private and secure parking. All in all, a very good place for a stopover.
Just off the motorway this is always our first stop when travelling down to Italy. After a long drive from Calais it is exactly what you want for a restful stay in a nice quiet area. The whole building is well decorated throughout, spotlessly clean and rooms with huge comfy beds. Very comfortable lounge and bar area and the buffet breakfast is all that you would want to set you up for the day. Free WIFI, plenty of parking places, a swimming pool should you fancy a dip, and only a short walk to a tram stop if you have time for a visit into town (which I would recommend). Last but certainly not least the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful.
We stayed here for 2 nights while touring France in our classic Mercedes so secure parking was important for us, which it had
It was also conveniently just off the Autoroute and the old town was easily accessible ( see more later )
This is a very nice clean modern HI Express with large comfortable very modern rooms
The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful which made for convivial atmosphere
The room rate included a good breakfast so although the rate was a bit more than some other budget chains, with them you would get charged another €20 for two breakfasts for a couple so it ends up being very similar
I do like HI Express as they tend to be of a better quality than their competitors and this one certainly is. In your room you could easily think you were in a hotel charging a much higher rate
This one even has a small swimming pool although being October it was not in use
There is no restaurant for dinner but just outside the hotels own gated carpark is another very large carpark and set around that are three restaurants, a Grill which the hotel gives you a voucher for that gets you 15% discount, a fast food place and a seafood restaurant
If you prefer to eat in the centre of town it’s an easy 12 minute walk to the tram stop at Gresilles then just a few stops into town. Tickets are cheap and you can get them for two people and for a period of time such as 24 hours, so better to leave your car safely parked at the hotel and enjoy a dinner in Dijon
Dijon is a delight so we will definitely visit again and will be very happy to use this hotel when we do
First off I have to say the way prices are presented on the IHG website is a bit annoying. It gives you an initial price for the room, but solo occupancy. So then when you book and you add on your other guests (in our case one adult more + one 5yr old) it obviously increases the cost. No idea why IHG does this as opposed to just giving a price for the room like other chain hotels do.
So onto the Holiday Inn Express Dijon itself. Really easy to find as it's just off the motorway and on an axe. Great welcome from staff who took the time to welcome us and explain things.
Room location was good (rooms overlooking the parking are quieter). A key factor in choosing the hotel was because rooms are air conditioned. The aircon was on when we got in the room, but it was 23 degrees and had that slight humid feel to it which is typical of what happens when the aircon is on and the window is opened. Shut the (excellent) black out curtains, boosted the aircon up and it was better by the time we got back from dinner. Pretty noisy CIAT aircon though when working at full pelt.
I thought the sofa bed which was made up for our child was pretty uncomfy (wouldn't recommend for two adults that's for sure) and grates a little when you've paid the extra for extra guests in the room. A single bed rather than squeezing a small double sofa bed would be better. He didn't complain though.
The swimming pool at the front of the hotel is small, but I loved it. Not heated, but with the warm weather I reckon it was about 24 degrees maybe? It was great to have a swim after a long drive. Would have been great if the pool opened before 09:30 the next day.
The breakfast is included in the price of the room (guess this might explain the per person pricing) and was a lot better than I expected. Reception told us that with a coach party in, it'd be better to head down after 8am. We appreciated the info. Pleased to say everything was available and continuously replenished - and loved the little touch of the detox water!
Even though we were on the edge of a commercial zone of Dijon, sitting outside eating croissants with a coffee after a few lengths in the pool made the whole stay feel like holidays!! Would stay again.
