We had an amazing stay again at Sondela. 2nd time we went. Excellent service, loved the warm swimming pools, tennis, putt putt, Bingo, Carousel, rock climbing and rare game drive to fees the giraffe, Judy, Eland, etc.
We have been to Sondela on a number of occasions as an RCI exchange when we couldn't get in anywhere else! Nothing has changed, despite numerous reviews or follow-up phonecalls.
The chalets are dark and dingy and there is not enough seating for 6 people in the lounge in a 6 sleeper chalet. The furnishings are also dark, worn and out-dated. The kitchen is impossible to work in at night, even with the main spotlights on AND the oven light AND the lounge lights! This needs to be sorted out!
It was a busy week-end but the poor service from the restaurant is totally unacceptable. It seems the staff are not trained properly at all. We were brought tea and coffee at the pool but no tea-spoons arrived. We asked the waitress to go back asap and fetch some before our beverages got cold. As she never re-appeared, we quickly borrowed from the conference centre. 2 cold pancakes arrived 40 mins after an order instead of the 4 ordered as "they had run out!"
On our last morning (Mon 2nd March), after the children milked the cows, we ordered drinks from the now empty restaurant but then realised our waiter had disappeared without even placing our orders! The manager came to our rescue 20 mins later.
The waiters have no uniforms and no name tags so it is impossible to see who is actually part of the restaurant staff. And they are scruffy and unkempt, nevermind untrained!
The garden furniture under the trees is rusted and old and there is not a cushion to be seen to soften the metal seats.
The entire place reeks of disinterest.
I must however compliment the students on their warm welcome but they too often answer 'I don't know" to certain questions.
Bianca and Jurie were great at the rehab centre but brochures on adoption of animals would be helpful.
The 3 children who accompanied us enjoyed themselves but this should not even be an RCI resort listing as it is far below par.
Terrible Experience from Sondela. We where very Disappointed in the general upkeep of the caravan park and the service received from the managers.
Caravan Park Bathroom where clean but the Shower doors broken, taps leaking and the toilet roll holders broken. Camp site was empty and the went ahead a put all the campers into one black so we where almost a meter away from the other campers - We where on top of each other, Campsites small. Braai facilities is poor. You also need to be reminded that you have to pay for everything at the resort - EVERYTHING is extra. We also took a cooler box to the main pool for the first 5 days and on the 5th day where told that we need to also pay corkage - of R100 per day. We paid this as to our shock saying that we have not been stopped before. A manager came and asked us why we where upset. He was very arrogant and did not care of our grievance and he just responded with a laugh - 'O Well you are lucky" and walked away. Sondela will not see us again,
Wow! What an amazing experience .. from the moment you arrive you are greeted with such hospitality.. received free vouchers and welcome drinks / pancakes and then guided to your camp site with friendly help to quickly put up the tents. This is the best part: help setup and taking down ones tents. The sites are clean and well run. There are so many children activities from ranger trails, multiple pools, bicycle riding etc. we had an absolutely amazing time with our kids and family. We will definitely be back. Well recommended.
Fabulous resort with so much to do especially for children: a farmyard, horse rides, game drives in a tractor, cycling track, heated pool, playground, bingo, quad bikes... Very clean and well maintained and excellent friendly, helpful staff and students. The spa is wonderful, relaxing professional treatments.
