Our group toured Castello di Montegiove on a day trip. We were welcomed by Rikki and Lorenzo and spent the next few hours being guided by them around their property. Lorenzo told of the history of the castle and his family, then guided us through the wine cellars before we enjoyed tasting the finished products. We then set off on...

We arrived at this hotel at the end of a long journey and were greeted by Matteo, who then served us with a four course meal (a wonderful surprise, as we had been eyeing the local pizzerias on the way in, wondering if anyone would serve us at 9pm!). He was a wonderful host, explaining each dish and each local...

we have just spent a week at the Castello and have nothing by high praise for the property and the host, Lorenzo. The rest of the family were away so we haven't met them unfortunately but Lorenzo has been the perfect host. He organised activities for us when we asked, was very helpful recommending things to do and restaurants (and...

Wonderfully spacious, antique filled and clean accommodation on top of a mountain in Umbria, beautiful views in all directions, fresh air and to top it all part of a renovated medieval castle. The stories from our excellent hosts Rikki and Lorenzo about wine making and the history of the castle are compelling - with real stone cannon balls found lodged...

Good friends had told us about this Castello in green and hilly Umbria and we had invited children, spouses and grandchildren - 12 in total - to this fantastic place. We occupied the two large apartments in the old olive oil mill - thoughtfully renovated. Still quite new and kept very clean, well furnished and - important - with excellent...

Stayed here for 10 days with friends (2 couples) and it was great. A little remote - 10 min drive to the nearest village that had groceries - but a good rural base for a holiday in Umbria. Most major towns within an hour drive and good hiking trails around the castle. Lorenzo and Rikki were wonderful hosts, place really...

Castello Montegiove is a fairy tale come true. Just below the Castle’s wall, the olive mill, with its pair of grand, two story apartments, invites you to be part of the enchantment. Umbria is beautiful; the hill towns captivating and the cities renowned and interesting. But those are only some of the reasons you should book this property as soon...

Rikki and Lorenzo have created a wonderful place for travelers of all types. My wife and I were there for nearly two weeks with our two young children. The castle and its surroundings provided plenty of enjoyment for all of us during the "down" time, and its location is wonderfully situated within 90 minutes of all the great "must see"...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Montegiove is a lovely and peaceful medieval village with less than 100 inhabitants, a charming wine-bar/, a restaurant and a recently restored picturesque church. The countryside surrounding Montegiove is fields and naturally grown forests with carefully marked trekking footpaths of various lengths. As Montegiove is close to the main communication lines and equidistant of Rome (154 km) and Florence (151 km), it is an ideal base for exploring the historical treasures of Umbria and Tuscany, especially the countryside of the historical provinces of Orvieto, Assisi, Todi, Spoleto, Perugia and Siena. In the vicinity of Montegiove is the notorious “La Scarzuola”, an old monastery and church founded by St. Francis of Assisi with a splendid garden and the so-called Città Buzziana. Charming and completely restored 13th century guest house of the castle (later partially used as olive mill) transformed into a luxurious country house with two spacious two-storeyed apartments, located at the ring wall of the castle. During your stay in the olive mill you have the possibility of being the Misciattelli family’s private guest and get a guided tour of the castle and the surrounding estate. The family is always ready to help with all practical needs whenever necessary during your stay. The apartments are equipped with satellite televisions, high-speed-internet connections, independent heating, fully equipped kitchens with dishwashers, laundry facilities and drying racks. The apartments are furnished in the traditional style of an Italian manor house with a tasteful combination of antique and modern furniture. The bedrooms have quality mattresses and in winter duvets. The two gardens have dinning areas, comfortable deck chairs and both have a beautiful view over the valley. ... more   less
