We stayed on one of the coldest winter nights and were met with roaring fires in the lounges and were shown to a lovely cosy bedroom at the front of the inn. Furnishings are not slick but good quality traditional "country house" style. The bath room was spotless with nice toiletries and large thick fluffy towels and robes. The homemade...

A great place to stay. Room was lovely, clean, all you could want... big fluffy towels, comfy bed, Egyptian sheets which were so soft. Breakfast excellent. All staff were polite yet genuine and friendly. Quiet lounges for guests which had glorious fires . Lovely and welcoming after walking in the cold. Will be back.

This is 5 minutes from one of my favourite painting locations and the spot where faerie were last seen in the lakes (or the site of a hill fort - make your choice!). And the road to the south of the inn is a superb fell road passing 2 lovely churches. The menu is varied and uniformly very good, the...

As we live in Cumbria and friends were driving up from the South Coast we decided on meeting at the Pheasant for lunch. We decided to skip the staters and go straight to the main course, three of us had the steak, and one the sea bass. A mix up lead to two of steak orders getting mixed up, rare...

Im very hard to please. And to add with a few pre cooked lunch time experiances I was pretty skeptical. However its gorgous, staff are polite ,very helpful and extremly informative. The bar is a wonder to look at a choice of rooms to eat your meal in. Bit on the pricey side. But I didnt mind paying for the...

The food was excellent, made more so by two excellent French waiters. Whatever I chose, he murmured 'perfect' which made me feel I'd passed an exam with flying colours. The two lounges had wonderful log burners and faded, old fashioned couches and chairs you could sink into. Fellow guests had been coming for years - always a good sign. For...

Have been to this hotel twice for lunch recently and both times were lovely. Food is well cooked and presented and most enjoyable. Prices are not bad considering the food is locally sourced and therefore fresh.

The restaurant is wonderful with so many lounges and snugs. The bistro dining is good and is to be highly recommended. The waitress was wonderful and recognised us immediately as did the owner and his wife. Thank you. The service was a little slow but totally understandable as we were late. The food was good and well presented, however, the...
