Layang Layang Island Resort Sdn Bhd is an exclusive resort that dominates the Layang Layang island - an oceanic atoll of Spratly Islands situated approximately 300km northwest of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. Fondly known as "The Jewel of the Borneo Banks", it is truly a diver's paradise. As many as 14 coral reefs have formed here, creating a breathtaking underwater scenery. The dive sites are well known for the intriguing hammerhead sharks and pygmy seahorses among other rare creatures. An hour's flight north of Kota Kinabalu, the island on which Layang Layang Island Resort Sdn Bhd nestled lies in 2,000m of ocean and due partly to the depth, this atoll has become famous for sightings of large pelagic species and for wall diving. Layang Layang Island Resort Sdn Bhd is the only resort on the island besides a Royal Malaysia Navy base. The resort, designed to look like the traditional Long House comprises 86 cosy rooms, restaurant and bar, outdoor swimming pool, Dive Center with certified diving instructors and a variety of diving courses among other facilities for modern comforts. Come for the exclusive and intriguing diving experience at this remote destination out of the world, where rare and uncommon underwater creature awaits you!
This is the only resort on Layang Layang so u dont hv a choice if you want to dive here which is known for sightings of big stuff like hammerheads, sharks & mantas. Unfortunately we were unlucky and the only highlight was the school of jacks & barracudas on one dive. Other than that it was just the "deep blue" at depths of 30metre+. Having said that it is a whole experience on its own and as a diver you will appreciate it!! Nothing much to see at the reefs and shallower waters so it was a disappointing trip. Accomodation was OK although the resort looks a little worn out. Service staff were great and food was good. In the interest of safety the biggest negative for me was the ratio of divers to dive guide. Considering we were diving to such depths daily, 10 divers to 1…

Stay there recently on our 5D/4N trip. The island is very private and peaceful. Good hospitality, spacious and clean room, food is yummy and diving is so much fun. We saw a school off bumpheads, Napoleon fish, a school of hammerheads at Wrasser Strip, white tip sharks every dives, Mantas every dives, lobsters, huge tuna fish, jack fish and etc etc etc. Did 2 times night dive near the jetty and surprisingly there's alot of thing to see especially micro stuff, shrimps, crabs, sword fish, nudi and more. The dive masters and boat man are more then helpful and friendly and they treat everyone equal. Although the internet/coverage is weak or sometimes no service at all but we had a pleasant stay here and met alot of new friends.

if you are reading this review then you are a diver and your main interest will be in the quality of the diving. As has been stated elsewhere, diving in the Blue is not like visiting a zoo. You may get to see Hammerheads and you may not. We were lucky and we did and it was an amazing experience. If you are a fairly experienced diver then the sharks apart there is not much to hold the attention from adiving perspective. The reefs are not that interesting but we did get to see and Eagle Ray and a Bull shark around the reefs (plus the usual Jack, Cleverly, Whiye Tips and so on). Deep Blue diving can be a challenge so beware. The DM's are pretty security conscious but of course they cannot be held responsible for the irresponsibility of some Divers that we saw who are a danger to…

As background, Layang Layang is an atoll 300 km from anywhere, it's an airstrip with a very well run dive centre attached. The staff act as one team to ensure that you have the best experience possible, nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is comfortable (deluxe rooms) the food a very simple and well executed Asian Buffet, and the beer is ice cold Tiger. The Dive shop runs to a plan; you are assigned to a boat and Dive master. Your gear stays on it for your stay, and you dive 3 times a day, meals are organised around the dive times. The diving can be challenging, to get the maximum enjoyment PADI AOW is essential, and say 30+ dives including drift and deep. The washing machine at LL is an experience like no other. The dive masters are guides, not instructors…

Water pressure is really good and plenty of hot water . Diving is 8 am , 11 am , 3 pm and night dive . Toward end of March till may is hammered head season . The dive route is desend from the speed boat , then dive into the blue for 15 mins to look for hammered head , after 15 mins then go back to the wall dive . During my stay period ,4 speed boat go out in every dive , always at least 1 group of divers can see…

Stayed 4 nights and just came back yesterday. Excellent service. Jane and her team at the reception, staffs at the restaurant, housekeeping, dive master and the boat captain. Great team. Food and the room - good !. Wifi available only at the reception and restaurant. About the diving experience - a big disappointment. Didn't get to see a single shark or manta ray.Visibility - 10 to 15m. Saw some playful dolphins following our boat for a while though during our first day out. Finally, I think 1dm to 10divers is a bit too much.

I just got back from spending 6 days at Layang Layang. The diving was amazing, and by far the most exciting experience I have had in over 20 yrs of diving all over. Although they told us we had a 30% chance of seeing Hammerhead sharks during our stay, we were the lucky ones, having two close encounters with these magnificent creatures. CONS: No to poor wifi. They may tell you online there is free wifi, but its available only in the lobby, and the router they use supports connections with a handful of devices. So, you will need to keep going to the lobby to ask them to reboot the router in order to kick some people off, so you can get on. And even so, internet connection is slow and seems to only work between 9 am until 3pm for some strange reason. Breakfast wasn't the…

Some time since Ive been but got a hankering to come back. This is for divers only as not much else to do other than dive, which really is spectacular. The big draw is Hammer Heads but many other variety of sharks. Would of liked to see some form of interaction with the dolphins as we had these every day. Food was adequate along with accommodation. I treated the trip like being on a live aboard and had no issue, however others did. Don't take your own gear as the additional charges for flights to and from Island are expensive.

Location: LAYANG LAYANG ISLAND MALAYSIA Staff: I don't know how many agent this Avillion Layang Layang use. The one I used confirmed wifi service was no problem and provide free at the public area of this resort. But wasn't true and the local staff said wifi was suspend for at least 6 months before my stay at Jul-2014. Local staff mostly not able to provide correct information (maybe they are part-time because the resort open only half of the year) Cleanliness: Ok, but they put us stayed the block was having renovation in half of the block. Sleep Quality: Good Diving: no comment

First our booking was change, because they had to repair the runway and we were told from other guest, that they use that reason many times over the year - but the runway wasn't repaired.. then they had no wi-fi but was working on it - the net had been down for over 2 months.. we had no contact with the outside when we were there, so all request had to go through the staff and costed a fee.. there was no black coffee - the machine could only make it with creme or sucker... after press the staff let us use powder-coffee. We had ordered rooms with sea-view, but they said that they hadn't got any rooms with that, but we could see a hole building standing empty - with windows out to the sea... We changed rooms 3 times because we wanted to get closer to the sea and in every room the…

Response from Lawrence L, Manager at Layang Layang Island Resort
Responded 17 Sept 2014
Dear Frederikshavn, Thank you for taking the time to post a review in trip advisor. Your feedback is valuable to us for our continuous improvement and positive changes to serve you better. The unavoidable change of booking was very much regretted and it is due to safety issues arising from the runway, of which also resulted in an early closure for us last season. The repair work by the authorities has just commenced and it will definitely be ready when we reopen. Our Internet WiFi is via satellite which is unstable at times due to weather condition or disruption of services by service provider. We are continuously working towards enhancing the product and our services. Therefore upgrading and refurbishment of our hotel and the facilities is in the plan and we will see to it that the reopen for next season is with better services and products. Once again, we apologise for the unpleasant experience. We appreciate your choosing Avillion Layang Layang and we hope to see you next season in our newly refurbished rooms! Thank you. Regards The Avillion Layang Layang Team
