Visited Icarai on February and had an excellent time at Pousada Agua de Coco. Both owners are always present and they serve a standard Brazilian breakfast (ham, cheese, bread, juice, coffee, milk and fruits). Very often the fruits were excellent, especially the mangos. The bedroom was fine (tough they need to either install A/C or improve the fan, which wasn't satisfactory to refresh the room) and they need to protect the rooms against Mosquitos. The city is so very calm with beautiful and windy beaches. There are only few, but very tasty restaurants close to the Pousada.

Be careful with this place, the pictures do not display the reality. They are a few years old, and some areas completely changed. The chalets are in a very poor condition. Many things are broken or not working properly like: Mosquito net (to old with holes everywhere so it could not guarantee a good sleep at night. All Mosquitos nets were like that), the bed is as noisy as an old carriage, the hammocks are very dirty (like everything bed sheets, pillows, floor, windows, bathroom, swimming pool…). In fact the chalet was not cleaned at any time in our 5 days stay and me and my girlfriend were the only guests in the whole Pousada. The breakfast was really poor, like a hostel but we paid like a 4 starso hotel. The roof of the eating area a had big hole so when it rained everything went wet, including the food and us. We could not sleep well because of the mosquitos and the street in front of the Pousada that turned noisy at night. Furthermore the housekeeper had a young dog that cried all night long. If you want to have a dog you must know how to treat it and walk it from time to time. It’s a pity that the place is in such a poor condition. You can see on the website that it once looked well but it seems that the owner doesn`t show up for quite a while. The locals confirmed that as well. I am Brazilian and my girlfriend German we travelled a lot and we know how a place looks like when is well taking care of. This place could be a paradise but it needs a better management. So we paid for one thing and we got another one.

Went to Brasil for 3 weeks Nov/Dec 11 - the first week we spent at Icaraizinho, staying at Agua de Coco - a charming resort, right on the beach, consisting of 3 wooden Poussadas. The transfer from Fortaleza was around 2 hours (narowly missing a scooter accident, a drunk man in the road and a row of donkeys along the route!) and we arrived in the early hours of the morning, along a narrow road - finally, with the sea facing us and a white wooden fence on the left the driver announced "we are here". It was remote and it was hard to tell if he was joking or not. Each of the 3 poussadas has a queen size bed, a single bed and a bathroom. It is on a raised decking area and each place has its own outside space with a table and chairs, hammocks and a bean bag. Outside, there is a very small raised pool with a decking area surrounding it, but it is so cute sitting there, or standing in the pool, overlooking the beach and sea. Breakfast is served each morning in a very small communal area - it consists of fruits, cake, bread, coffee and fresh juices + a bowl of cooked egg appears on your table from the kitchen. There is a toaster and a toasty maker. The 2 staff do not speak English, but we managed with beginner Spanish - they were certainly very friendly and did whatever they could to help us. The Poussadas do not have AC, just a fan and this was not great - there was a mosquito net, but there were a lot of critters who liked to pop in and out of our room and if you are not keen on this sort of thing you may wish to investigate further. Little frogs are an inevitability and they certainly liked our shower - we shared it with between 2 and 15 of them at any one time, but they were lovely. Utterly relaxing, I loved this place. The bay is large and totally empty, apart from the fishing boats. We were there for the windsurfing so spent most time at Vela Centre next door. At most there were 10-15 windsurfers out at one time. The Centre does lunches and has many bean bags and relaxing chairs to hang around in. They also organise trips and transfers etc. I would recommend the Hibisco restaurant just behind Agua de Coco and also Zepatta and the restaurant next door to it. I would also recommend a two centre holiday - the 4 hour beach transfer to Jericoacoara was amazing! My final tip is to check if you are going in November because the weekend we arrived was the annual Icarai Festival - my life, it was NOISY and so many people were there - the music went on 24/7 for 2 nights and the beach was a tip of rubbish and bodies sleeping it off on the beach - however, on Monday morning it was all gone and was back to it's tranquil self.
