We stayed one night dinner, bed and breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble to make our stay comfortable and special. Food was excellent. Location very picturesque even in winter. I guess this is the ideal walkers' stopping place and 'watering hole'. Envious that the locals have such a good hostelry for Real Ale and great food.

Our third trip to this great place. Gorgeous food, really warm welcome and a great base to explore Whitby and the surrounding areas. Our kids love it, especially the stepping stones across the river and we'll definitely be back!

You can walk in some pubs and feel the glares and stares from around the room which pronounce "You're not local"... and make you feel a bit uncomfortable. This is NOT one of those. It's a lovely village pub in a beautiful riverside setting. A proper pub, as a friend would say. Warmly welcomed, good friendly service at the bar....

We stayed in Ash Cottage close by the pub with 6 adults and 2 dogs The cottage itself was very warm and comfortable with plenty of room for all of us All rooms were fresh, clean and welcoming, such a pity none of us could play the piano! The facilities were excellent with everything we needed including welcoming flowers, chocolate and...

We went here on the 2nd night of our holiday, wanting to stop somewhere to eat that was dog friendly. The lady at the bar was extremely welcoming and friendly advising us we could sit where we liked and even gave us table service that we not not expecting! We ordered the Lamb Chops, a Fish Platter and the Chick...

We visited in January for lunch en-route to the Yorkshire Coast. Lealholm is a delightful little village on the river Esk, the river eventually finding it's way to the sea at Whitby. The Board Inn is situated right next to the river by the bridge. The village also has a Quaker Water Pump (worth checking out) and is on the...

Unexpectedly memorable. All the meals were exceptionally made. The meat is home grown, the fish caught locally and the vegetables come from village gardens. I had the lambs liver with slabs of real, fatty bacon on, with red wine gravy... twice! You can even say how you like it cooked. I also had heart casserole, again, memorable and about £11....

This is a fantastic pub and serves great home cooked food. Prices are reasonable for food of this quality and portion size more than adequate. I think most ingredients are local to the area and the menu is sufficient for choice without being cluttered. Real ales are well kept. It does get busy though so booking in advance is recommended....

Comfortable, warm and welcoming, perfectly cooked Scampi and the best chips around, reasonably priced, we will certainly be visiting again. We travelled by train from Whitby and the pub is just 5mins walk from the station.
