If you want to get a feeling for traditional Japan this is the kind of hotel for you, however do not expect Wester comfort, no on suit bathroom beds on the floor and no chairs in the dining room, the toilet and bathroom were spotlessly clean but shared. Andthe evening meal was pure 🏯Japanese, and we probably also ate some...

I stayed in Shinchaya inn during my walk japan hiking tour. Unforgettable stay in a typical Japanese house...stunning and tranquil location, clean traditional rooms, good dinner although I am not a fan of Japanese food but I appreciate the presentation and generosity. The owner couple was so decent and exquisite. I highly recommend it.

My wife and I along with our 2 teenaged sons spent a night here as part of hiking the Nakasendo with Walk Japan. We were promised an authentic experience at a Japanese inn and were were really pleased. The innkeepers and staff are very friendly and really look after you. The accommodations are tatami mats with futons. Traditional robes/pyjamas (yukata)...

Shinchaya (not Sinchaya) is a solidly built minshuku (family guesthouse) on the edge of the forest on the Nakasendo Trail between Magome and Nakatsugawa. It is simple but clean, quiet and well maintained. The evening meals are elaborate arrays of locally sourced and slightly esoteric ingredients (one plate included small fried grasshoppers). Little English is spoken.

We spent a wonderful night at the Shinchaya ryokan while walking the Nakasendo Way with Walk Japan. The owners were great, the meals were great. I would love to spend another night here. We especially enjoyed the onsen.

This was our first experience at a ryokan style inn. The rooms were very simple with futons and buckwheat pillows. The shared facilities were spartan, but spotless. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, especially the locally grown rice. An after dinner walk up the hill in the dark allowed us to star gaze to our hearts content!

This minshuku was my first stop during my Nakasendo hike. Arriving at the Nakatsugawa train station, I took a bus to Kisoji-guchi and then walked through the green rice fields and the forest to Shinchaya. There is a section in the forest with the original stone pavement from the Shogunate times. It is a beautiful walk and I would highly...
