This place is an institution, as is it's proprietor, the estimable Jean Mayer, a true legend in alpine skiing. At 80 plus, he is probably still the best skier on the mountain. First the good. The food is very good, though you don't have a lot of choice, what you're served is what you get. The staff is very nice... More

On a sunny day, the outdoor BBQ patio is a great spot for lunch on the mountain. We had the burgers and bratwurst with sauerkraut. The food was good and the crowd was happy. It's a bit of a hike down to the restrooms in your ski boots.

If you've never met the man who is the soul of the hotel, make sure you visit with Jean. We've been staying and eating at the St. B. for decades. Enjoy the ski in/out A-frames or the condos for more space and don't miss lunch on the deck or dinners in the dining room. The St. B. has great ambiance... More

I've been eating here for over 25 years now. The hamburgers grilled on the deck are awesome. Normally served med-rare, the combination of fresh ground brisket and chuck make for a very flavorful burger. They also have some great garnishes like, homemade pickles, blue cheese, and of course New Mexico Hatch Green Chile. Definitely worth a try.

The Hotel St Bernard provides a true alpine experience with warmth an hospitality beyond compare. Gourmet meals and skiing right to your room make it a special place to be. After 40 years of coming here, I no longer ski because my knees are not stable enough, but I still come to enjoy the atmosphere, companionship, and food.

We have been skiing at Taos Ski Valley for the last three years now and this is the first time we could get into the Hotel St. Bernard for dinner only (did not stay at the hotel). This hotel is an all inclusive hotel if you are staying there to include three meals a day, lift tickets, spa, etc. and... More

I just stayed at this truly great Ski Gem over the President's Day weekend. The tremendous service started when I got in touch with Kathy and Christine because the HomeAway rental we had reserved cancelled on us with only 1 week's notice. Just as luck may have it, Christine had 2 rooms available for my group of 4 travelers. We... More

Amazing food, excellent service, and everyone always friendly and helpful. The rooms are very basic, no TV or phone, but clean. You walk out of the hotel and the chairlift is 20 yards away! Wonderful time, we will be back next year.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Jean Mayer arrived in Taos Ski Valley over fifty years ago with a passion for skiing and a dream to create a sanctuary for like-minded ski lovers. With his family, he began building the hotel in 1960. Its sturdy log construction mirrors European Alpine traditions and is located right at the base of Al's Run and the main chairlift. Today it is the only hotel in Taos Ski Valley still offering the traditional, all-inclusive Ski Week – a full week of immersion into the passion of skiing with every need supplied by a well-trained staff of skiing professionals. At the Hotel St. Bernard we continually evolve while keeping an eye on the past. The St. Bernard has stood the test of time since 1960, nestled on the ski slopes it is a perennial favorite. We maintain an historic appeal but we constantly seek improvement to offer a distinctive flair to our guests. The hotel has 28 lodge-style rooms, a beautiful communal dining room with a superbly stocked bar, a spa and work out room, and ski storage lockers. Enjoy lunch outside on the deck - location, location, location! The deck is located on the ski slope! Enjoy a taste of New Mexico with our famous green-chile cheeseburger, other lunchtime treats, drinks and more! The Hotel St. Bernard Ski Week includes 7 nights in hotel room (double occupancy), 6 morning ski lessons, 6 days lift tickets, three meals a day in the Hotel dining room, and for those of you with children, our world famous children's program!!! ... more   less
