If you want to experience what it's like staying at a Japanese minshuku, this is it. It's not a fancy place but the hospitality is top-notch. It is run by a Japanese couple. The dinner and breakfast they provided is just out of this world. I think I had at least 10 items for my dinner. I ate everything. The...

This minshuku provides the warmest of welcomes and a great travel experience. Based in Narai , 1/2 way along the Nakasendo, it is a perfect spot for weary walkers. Rooms are spotless; food is delicious and the owners could not be more helpful or charming. Excellent value. Highly recommended !

This friendly minshuku is a great place to stay on the Nakasendo. The hosts were very warm and friendly, and the building itself has a lot of character, with its traditional facade and its long corridors. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the food was stellar-- filling, delicious, and with lots of seasonal and local touches. Excellent value for...

This appears to be a large guesthouse with a corridor that seems to go for miles and miles. We ended up in a room right at the back, near the railway line. Noise wasn't a problem as the trains are infrequent and don't run late at night. The room was simple and elegantly styled with lovely warm futons in one...

We stayed one night at this location as part of a group. It was our first experience of a Minshuku and such a special and memorable experience. Our hosts were delightful, the property and bathing facilities were clean and dinner was superb!

Been here 4 times over the last 4 years and have fallen in love with thIs village well worth a visit for at least a night. If you are looking for solitutude, traditional and authenticity as a major location for Nakasendo then this is the place to slow down and write a book or paint that master piece. In other...

We've been here in May 2012. The hosts are very friendly people with excellent cooking skills. It was a very memorable experience. Narai is nice for a lazy afternoon, but this place was fun for a good diner and a very nice breakfast!

Narai Juku is very much like Tsumago also located in the Kiso valley area. I have been coming to these two areas for years as a photographer tour operator and find Narai to have more soul as it is a working town. Tsumago also has it's own kind of charm but Narai is not as much a tourist town therefore...
