Hyggeligt hotel.
For a budget price, you have the same view as the boutique hotels next door, El Castillo, Alma, and 360 hotel...We rented a room w ocean view above the pool, and an A/C room on the mountain view side. We had recently stayed at two previous places in Ojochal...which had their highlights...but El Paraiso Azul had a bit of everything! Amazing view, a pool, choice of comfortable rooms, good internet connectivity for work check-ins, and delicious breakfast included...all hosted by a friendly and accommodating staff. Small facility with 10 rooms, 5 in the ocean view building w pool and 5 in the mountain view building with cooking facilities. Given that Calle Perezoso has over fifty structures, this is the only Tica owned facility on that road! The owner, Ellie, spoke English perfectly and was very helpful in setting up rides out to the Isla Garza, her reviews for lunch, dinner and best beaches based on the tide were right on! She told us when us when local music may be playing and connected us with different activities in the area. ; waterfalls, hikes, bike rides. We have traveled extensively in that area for many years. This is our top recommendation Pura Vida!…
We are very experienced travelers, and rarely complain when things aren't perfect. But we also realize that folks reading Trip Advisor deserve the truth, and sometimes things just aren’t up to standards. We live in Costa Rica, and my wife has Alzheimer's. Many of her friends are visiting us during this time, and we tour them around Costa Rica. We made a paid, confirmed reservation at this hotel for ourselves and a guest. Two days prior to our planned stay, the hotel informed us that they had booked a large group after us and that we would not be able to use the pool as they reserved it for the exclusive use of their new guests. It is over 90º F at this time of year, and a pool is essential. To their credit, I suppose, they said that we could use the pool at another hotel some distance away. I have never heard of a hotel asking their guests to load up in the car and drive to another hotel to use the pool. I contacted them to encourage them to reconsider, and rather than receiving a gracious reply apologizing for the inconvenience, they canceled our reservation entirely! Because our reservation was abruptly canceled without notice only two days before our scheduled visit, we were forced to scramble to find another hotel. This is no easy task in Costa Rica during the busy season, and I was unable to find another place in the area. I had to book another hotel in a completely different town, which puts us two hours away from the tour we had scheduled for our first day, and all the activities we had planned in the area. Now we have to get up at 5 am in order to drive two hours to make it to the tour company, and we are forced to drive considerable distances each day to enjoy the trip we had planned. VERY disappointed with El Paraiso Azul over their unprofessional handling of our reservation, their revocation of our use of the pool, and their abrupt, unprofessional, and discourteous cancellation of our reservation. And finally, we have not yet received a refund on our canceled reservation! I will have to put a stop payment on the credit card charges, apparently! I have never said this about a hotel before, and I have reviewed quite a few of them. But my advice is to avoid them at all costs!…
