My husband and I booked into this Suite for a short break ... the apartment was lovely , very clean, and it had an area for self catering if wanted. The staff were lovely and also spoke English ..... nice views from the balcony and in the mornings I was watching otters run from a field into the water .... nice break during a pandemic!! There were good safety regs in place.

We read mixed reviews on the Golden Tulip so were a bit anxious but it seemed the only place that could meet our needs as we were a retired couple travelling with our daughter, her husband and toddler. We were due to meet up at the hotel. Our daughters flight meant they would arrive at hotel at 12.30. The room was not ready til 5 but a secure room was made available for our luggage. On arrival at 12.30 we were told our suite would be ready in 10 minutes and almost immediately we were allowed access. The suite was everything we could have hoped for. 2 good sized bedrooms, one big enough for a travel cot (provided free). A seperate toilet and bathroom. A large lounge, dining area with a very adequate kitchenette. The balcony was large. The lighting could have been brighter and the sliding doors on the kitchenette meant all areas couldn't be accessed at the same time but these were minor. The car parking was great, spacious and secure. The walk into town was 20 mins along a footpath running along the road and then cutting down through an underpass into town. It was fine and we used it several times. It would be impossible to build a hotel this size any closer to the town. To get to sandy beaches you definitely need to use a car but these are only 10 mins away as was a large intermarche supermarket. On a cloudy day we travelled 20 mins to Planet Sauvage, a safari park, and had a wonderful day. Pornic itself is a lovely scenic place with plenty of restaurants and little shops. The Golden Tulip had a small indoor swimming pool that is ideal for 'little ones', but we did not use the restaurant chosing to self cater. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The whole place was spotlessly clean. We could not fault it and would definitely recommend it and hope to return. A lovely holiday in a lovely place. Thank you Golden Tulip!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Firstly, my wife arranged this visit to celebrate the 5th year anniversary of the day we met. I called earlier during the day to arrange ask them to have a bottle of Champagne ready for when we arrive. I was surprised to see that they actually had a fridge in the room. In fact, the concept of the hotel is to give the opportunity to cook if visitors want to do so (everything is provided!!). They made sure that the room (which is very very large) was decorated with petals of flowers on our bed. The meal was delicious and fantastic!! Plus towards the end the brought us something extra when they learned that we were celebrating something. It was peaceful and the view from our room was stunning. I recommend this hotel and I would come back there.

There are so many good things and so many bad things I think its only fair to give both sides to the experience. This may take a while to read.......but please read all of it for the fully balanced view. Lets start with the good! We liked the location. It was near enough to Pornic without being in Pornic centre and such an easy drive into the centre. There is an underground car park which means your car stays cool on hot summer days and the car park is more secure with easy access to the rooms using the spotlessly clean and fully functioning lift. The staff on reception were very friendly, professional and welcoming. It was clearly indicated both on the website, TripAdvisor and the main reception this was a none smoking premises. This was for us one of the main attractions. Also it was very reasonably priced. The communal areas are clean and furnished with modern seating. The areas are brights and spacious. There were only about four or five rooms occupied in this huge hotel. We noted our surprise at this. The rooms themselves are very spacious, with contemporary furnishings, reasonably well equipped, good size fridge, housing complimentary bottled water. There was a kettle, a microwave and hotplate. The air conditioning excellent and easy to control. It was very clean and comfortable. Large spacious wardrobes and plenty of room in the room itself to move around. The bed was large and comfortable. Lots of lamps and the lighting was good. The bathroom was pristine and again very new with a good shower. There was a large balcony with nice seating and we were altogether happy. At this point we would have given this place 4 stars. Now to the rest of the review.(the negatives) On the first morning we were woken at 7am ish by the strong smell of cigarette smoke. It was overwhelming like there was someone actually in our room smoking. I could not get back to sleep because the smell was so overpowering. We couldn't understand why when its advertised as a smoke free hotel? As we were getting dressed showered etc we smelled it again. Very strong. So I presumed some staff may be underneath the balcony having a smoke. I went onto the balcony and there was a woman in the next room/balcony along smoking away on her balcony. All the smoke was heading our way and into our room. We went down to reception and explained we needed a room move. We explained that the smell of smoke was filling our room from next door which was totally unacceptable from a smoke free hotel. They said "its not possible to move you because there is nothing physically wrong with the room" I said "there is, there is smoke in a smoke free hotel?" They continued to insist saying there is nothing physically wrong with the room so we cant move you! We were incredulous! I said you have an empty hotel here and yet you aren't prepared to move us. They said we will ask the lady in the next room not to smoke! I said that's not acceptable to us because she just will. So we took a seat in the main reception and I said we will check out then and go elsewhere. I asked them to resolve it or we are gone! She continued there will be no refund as there is nothing physically wrong with the room. We had paid in advance. So I said there is lots wrong with the room, its full of cigarette smoke. They were insistent they could do nothing! Don't forget this is advertised as a SMOKE FREE HOTEL". While we were sitting there waiting (wasting valuable time while we should have been out enjoying Pornic) another receptionist told us she had spoken to the lady in the next room and the lady said its "tough- I'm smoking on a balcony which is open air and I will continue to do so". So I said surely the lady should be asked to leave? They said we cant do anything I'm afraid. She explained that they cant move us to another room because they pay outside contractors to clean the rooms and the cost to clean for someone staying a few nights cost less than when they have to get the room ready for a totally new customer. So for the sake of a few extra £'s they were prepared to let us have a miserable time. I had booked through Booking .com. So I contacted Booking.com to complain and realised that the price for our stay was now roughly £15 cheaper than when we had booked and paid in advance. Booking.com have a 'price guarantee' policy where if the price comes down after you have booked they will give it to you for the cheaper price. So......I asked reception to tell the Manager to use the £15 refund I was now due to pay for the cost of cleaning the room so we could move to another room. It was that or give me the refund of £15. Voila! This offer did the trick and after wasting several hours of our stay we finally got a room a long way away from the selfish woman in our original room. But......a word of warning it effectively cost me £15 more to move rooms away from a smoking customer in a widely advertised none smoking hotel. The second room was just as fantastic as the first! BUT WITHOUT THE CIGARETTE SMOKE! It gets worse. On the last morning we had booked in for breakfast. It was awful! A cold soulless dining room with not a single table set. Just a pile of empty tables that didn't even align.(see photos) How depressing! As for the food it was largley uncovered and had flies landing on everything. Pancakes cold and hard on a plate with flies all around them. Pastries hard and stale like they had been cooked the day before. Poor selection of anything. Juice had run out but no staff available anywhere to ask for more. Fruit left out for flies to land on and only limited choice altogether of anything. It was worst example of breakfast hospitality I have ever experienced and we paid 13 euros each for that diabolical offering. So for the incident with the smoke in the room and the poor breakfast and the resistance of staff to move us (or her) I give them a ZERO stars. It is only two by the contrast of the otherwise great rooms. What a shame. The hotel is empty. It has great rooms, great location but for us it failed on so many levels in all other aspects of our stay. So there you have it! Venture in at your own risk!

This hotel exists for over a year however no signings to find it, it was thanks to the local police who actually brought us there. It is outside the center. Rooms and breakfast are good, dinner is more basic.

The hotel is ok ,rooms are clean enough. The hotel is further out than advertised with the people we booked with so used the restaurant on site the 1st night we found drinks expensive for what you get 5 euro for a small bottle of beer (half pint ) and nearly 10 euro for a spirit and mixer .They also charged 3.5 euro for a small glass of milk for my child .The limited menu that's a little over priced for what you get was disappointing .My meal came out with 3 small bite size bits of fish and unfortunately the rice and vegetables came out cold as they did for other members of our party We found there to be No excuse for this with only one other booking in restaurant its not like the chef was over worked

Beautiful location - although tricky to find, but there is as I have said in my title - something missing. Very new but no bar, no restaurant, no anything really! Bad satellite reception and awful child unfriendly balconies! Plus things - friendly staff, good breakfast, very nice rooms. If you want anything you have to drive into town. We just didn't understand why a hotel would open with a drinks menu on reception but not offer that service yet!
