The one thing you have to remember when visiting and staying in a ryokan is that the rules are slightly different! They will interrupt you to set up your futons for the night. They will wake you up for your breakfast - they will need to put the futons aside before they can move the table in for you to...

A sweet relais and chateaux property in Kinosaki onsen, the quaint spa town that is about two and a half hours away from Kyoto. We spent two great nights here and enjoyed every minute. Staff, including reception and the hostess who served our meals, spoke excellent English and communication was no problem at all. We found the service very helpful...

Rather than repeat what other reviewers already said about the accommodations and good food, some additional pointers - they are precise about check in at 2pm and check out at 11am. You might want to time your arrival and train schedule accordingly. Spent most of my two days there using the facilities, and take short walks around the small, quaint...

Had really high expectation going into this stay, after seeing all these good reviews, but undoubtably it was the most disappointing stay at a ryokan at all time. The room was nothing fantastic but the food was just awful... none of the ingredients were fresh and it felt it was cooked like a day earlier; the sushi even had fish's...

This is the place for serious onsen lovers! The town is historic with seven public baths and the ryokan itself is more than 150 years old but has been superbly well maintained and renovated over the years. We stayed in the Hourai room in the new wing, although it doesn't have access to the beautiful garden like all the rooms...

We had a wonderful room with a private onsen and enjoyed impeccable service and excellent food. Wonderful japanese garden. Yutakas were provided to stroll through the hotel and the village which definitely is worth a visit. Pricy, but it's worth it.

Dear Jos689, Thank you for choosing to stay with Nishimuraya Honkan in Kinosaki Onsen! We always encourage our guests to go out and stroll through the town of Kinosaki Onsen. This is the fourth Ryokan I have stayed in and I finally found the perfect experience I was hoping for. There are two Onsen in the Ryokan and one can easily just stay there, however the Ryokan gives you a pass for all the other Onsen in the village and there is a fun atmosphere with all the people walking...

After spending almost 12 straight days in the urban centers of Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka, my wife and I looked forward to visiting Kinosaki. This is a wonderful village with magnificent public onsens. Part of this experience is to stay in a ryokan. The Nishimuraya is the #1 spot in Kinosaki. The accommodations were traditional...tatami floors with private sitting...
