We spent a night here and it has ben a great exprience! Staff were very polite and could speak English well. I had a traditional Japanese room and we slept on the tatami which they laid out while we had dinner. Dinner is great here..so do opt for the meal option if possible. Its hard to describe the entire meal...

I spent 2 nights in this Ryokan as part of 5 day ski trip in Zao. It was a wonderful, fascinating introduction to Japan for me and my girlfriend and a good base for skiing. It's a very traditional, historic ryokan. We were the only non-Japanese people staying there. We found the staff and other guests to be incredibly friendly...

Miyamaso Takamiya is a very special place in a special town. I have stayed in Ryokans before, so there was no novelty factor for me, but this one still manages to impress. The property is almost 300 years old but it was very well maintained and gives you a sense of old authentic Japan. There were 5 of us in...

We have arrived Yamagata earlier than what we have planned. So we took the 12:20 nn bus to the Zao Onsen. To our suprise, staff of this hotel are waiting for us at the bus terminal, even we have not told them our arrival time. It is really nice of them! This hotel is 5 minutes walk from the bus...

We stayed here 2 nights to experience the Zao region. This onsen hotel 深山荘高見屋 is 299 years old when we checked in and the buildings are beautifully maintained. The interior is a taste of history, full of wooden structures, art pieces and with a rich sophisticated onsen hotel atmosphere. The services were excellent. We were first greeted at the car...

I've stayed for 4 days with my husband. The hotel staff are very kind and helpful. They speak little English, so better brush up your Japanese before coming. Wifi only available in the lobby, not in the rooms. The price included both breakfast and dinner, which was great, as the village was quiet and many places closed. Food was served...

I have visited many places in Japan, minshuku to ryokans of great beauty. But Takami has touched me deeply in many ways. All great Ryokans are intricate and quietly beautiful, but Takami is painstakingly authentic. You never feel that it's a gallery or hotel, but that it's someone's (16 generations of that someone) proud home, and you are their long...

This century-old ryokan is situated fairly near to the ski lifts, about 10-15 min walk away along the road. There is a much shorter way but this is unfortunately a treacherous path of snow-covered steps and we didn't dare to risk taking this route. The part that impressed me the most about this ryokan is the food as well as...

Thank you for coming to our ryokan. And we are very happy that you are satisfied with your stay in our ryokan. Our hotel chef is careful for selecting the ingredients and cookery only for everyone’s smiles. He’s using fresh and seasonal ingredients when he does the cooking. Also, he tried to consider for different menu everyday when you stay...

English comment is below after Japanese I stayed this Japanese traditional hotel with my five of my friend when we visit to Yamagata to enjoy cherries picking in cherry garden many farmers run the end of June timeframe. One of my friend recommended this who lives in Yamagata. Zao area is famous at hot springs of...

I tend to be rather critical in my ratings but this traditional ryokan in Zao Onsen truly deserves a 5 star rating. For our party of 3 we booked a western style room (301), which meant 2 Western style beds and 1 Japanese (futon) style bed. It was a very very beautiful apartment with separate bedroom, living area, and 2...
