We stayed in the older building side of the hotel and used the washing machine and dryer facility at the other wing (open 24 hours although almost always occupied).
Bf is so so. They do not serve buffet, you have a choice of western or japanese set and portion is quite small. There is a small mall (S-Pal) linked to the hotel where there are some food options but they do close very early. Otherwise plenty of food choices are available outsides the hotel as well.
Breakfast was a set meal either Japanese or Western. We tried both and both were of a high quality.
Located at Yamagata JR station, so shops, restaurants, sights and transport all within walking distance.
One of my favourite hotels during this trip.
fits a three days visit to the Yamagata region. The hotel is located in the building of the train station and you don't need to go out to the street to look for it. Rate is little high but rooms are very spacious ,with two queen size beds for a double occupancy. Very clean, quiet and comfortable, with big windows and lovely views of the mountains. A Japanese style hotel with western flavour, there is some kind of old fashion charm about this place. My booking did not include breakfast. It didn't bother me as there are convenient stores downstairs and we just picked
up rice cakes and hot coffee and had breakfast on train to Yonezawa. It saved a lot of time. After a half day trip to Yonezawa we took the train back to Yamagata Station and still have time to enjoy a relaxed dinner at the restaurant in the shopping area of the station. The Kajo Park with the remains of "Kasumigajo", stone walls of the old castle, and the Municipal Museum of Yamagata City are
close to the hotel, with walking distance. To conclude, I enjoyed my stay here for the trip.
I was allowed to check in around 2.30pm, and was allocated a twin room overlooking west side of the station. It's spacious, with writing desk and a couch that is as comfortable as my bed, and there was even a 4G-enabled smartphone for free usage, supposingly able to go online, as well as making free domestic call and some free international call (for certain countries only), the smartphone can be taken out but somehow, my handset was a defective one, so I didn't bother anyway, after all, I have my own data roaming connection. The room has free WiFi, but connecting speed was pathetic, I have easily 3 to 4 peripherals of Android and Apple interfaces, all of them encountered mediocre connection, I suspect my room is probably far from their common wireless router. For checking emails it should be good enough, but expect intermittent disruption while watching Youtube.
Like most other JR East hotels, this one does not offer any onsen in-house, but they provide free aromatic bath lotion packs for use in their big bath tub, as well as 2 bottles of complimentary mineral water. All other necessary amenities are well catered for. My room was equipped with a 43" LCD TV, humidifier, electronic safe, fridge, kettle etc, and plenty of power points.
My enclosed breakfast was at Mogami-tei (2F), surprisingly it wasn't a buffet breakfast like most other Metropolitan hotels. Patrons have a choice of either Japanese or Western style breakfast, which I ordered the former. Personally, I actually do not favour buffet breakfast, this was really how I like it! Mogami-tei's setting demonstrated impeccable attention, emphasising usage of premium local ingredients, and presented them in separate saucers.
In general, my stay in this hotel was a very pleasant and comfortable one, and overall the room is very well maintained. Having stayed in some other Metropolitan hotels before, I find this one offering better attention on details.
The only thing that at breakfast when I was about to finish and asked for another coffee, the waitress told me that I could get one at checkout for take away. 2000 yen for a fairly average western breakfast and couldn’t be served a second cup of coffee? I wouldn’t appreciate such attitude as Japanese service.
The hotel itself is well maintained. Very clean and neat and quiet. My room had a magnificent view of the city and mountain range.
Breakfast is good too.
Turned out not just the location, but the room and service is far from my expectation. Room is huge, modern and clean. Staff is well trained and polite. Price is reasonable. Many good restaurants nearby.
Highly recommend hotel.
Location was great at the train station. Within easy reach of many things in town. View of the city is excellent from this hotel.
"11th floor which is the highest maybe best because of the train's noise from early morning."Read full review
