Sunriver Oboke is a lovely hotel/onsen (hot spring) perched high above the Oboke gorge in Tokushima Prefecture. The property itself is rather nondescript, but the location is amazing and the Japanese-style rooms are charming and comfortable, complete with a private outdoor bath overlooking the steep mountains and Yoshiko River. The hotel staff were friendly and incredibly accommodating chauffeuring us to...

The place is small and cosy. Location might be difficult sometimes especially if you are driving there in late night. You could easily miss the small side road. Rooms are good but only public bathrooms next to public hot spring are available. Therefore, rooms with private hot spring might be considered not worth it. You still have to go to...

When we arrived (they forgot to send the shuttle bus to station), greeted with fire engines everywhere. There had been a fire due to poorly maintained chimney. Told not to worry - upstairs corridors full of smoke, and room stank of smoke. After waiting outside for an hour (and looking up moving hotels), were offered room in the other building....

This place is ageing but comfortable. The rooms and onsen were spotless, but the exterior of the towers need a good scrub as they look grotty. Our ryokan room was large and bedding very comfortable. The Japanese meals were quite nice, but the "western" breakfast on our second day made us miss the nice Japanese breakfast from the day before....

We had a huge Japanese room facing the canyon...with a train bridge crossing nearby. What a treat. That's the best thing about this place. Service was warm at the reception...wifi at lobby only. The hotel opens up its onsen to the public so it can get very crowded....somewhat messy during my visit. I visited once and it was for less...

We spent 3 nights at Sunriver Oboke and every day was a joy. The staff would fold up and store our futons while we were away for the day and lay them out a again in the evening while we were in the onsen. The rooms and the onsen were very clean. The onsen has Shiseido soap, shampoo and conditioner...
