We were here with friends mid 2016. Like a few other reviewers have mentioned, the food was terrible!!! Every meal we had was of a very poor quality. There was very little choice of non-vegetarian food and nothing in terms of pastries or desserts. Reason being, they were using some untrained village boys in the kitchen. While we did express...

We spent two blissful nights at this beautiful property. Such a wonderful change from the big hotels found in Indian cities. This property is more a house than a hotel. It is charming and atmospheric - a classic from another era. Taking meals in the garden, waking up to birdsong and no vehicle noise for two days were the highlights...

Dear Julie241159, Thank you for your review of Rajakkad Estate. It is wonderful to know that you enjoyed the beautifully clean air and the warm reception of all the staff here. I am glad you enjoyed the garden, it is very much a passion and a lovely place to take meals or relax with the magical singing birds. We are...

It is a long drive all the way up to the Rajakkad Estate. Long, winding mountain roads with beautiful scenery, then a gate in the middle of a small village and a couple more minutes up a path. Eventually the car parks by the most beautiful mountain retreat you can imagine. Beautiful Keralan architecture ( The House was dismantled in...

Dear Olivier P, Thank you for your review of Rajakkad Estate. We are delighted that the gentle pace of life, with the orchestra of bird song and ever changing gardens provided a wonderful place to rest and enjoy the peace. We very much recognise that the luxury of Rajakkad, whilst generous in many ways, has had a couple of important...

Ok. Everything that all other reviewers say about the building and the setting are true. The old palace is aesthetic and intriguing, peppered with exquisite and quirky artefacts of all shapes and sizes. The landscape is stunning and the air clean. But now this is where, I am afraid, I am going to rock the boat or poop the party....

Dear Intrepid Hector, Thank you for your review of Rajakkad and for recognizing the natural beauty with which we are blessed. Spent two nights with my family and my friend's at rajakkad estate. Place was absolutely wonderful; peaceful, quiet and serene. If you are looking for sightseeing around or five star comfort, this is not the place. What you get is a beautifully restored and well maintained 250 yr Kerala house, tasty food, a well stocked library, a lot of quiet...

It's a fantastic property run by Robesh and his men, which will help you relax, unwind and rejuvenate. Don't go with any agenda, just carry books with you to spend hours not doing anything. They also have a little library where one can take books to leisurely read. The food is healthy and home cooked. The rooms are classic, yet...

I don't want to write an unsatisfactory review but I had very high expectations of Rajakkad. The hotel on the property has been painstakingly restored and done up. The estate itself is serene and beautiful. When we arrived there was no chef on the property and the local boys cooked up something very basic for us. I have travelled to...

Beautiful old Keralan house moved to a fabulous location high in the Palani hills, on a picturesque coffee estate. The property is beautifully, and tastefully, furnished in an eclectic mix of indian and western antiques together with contemporary pieces. This is an idyllic hideaway if all you want is peace and tranquility, there is little to do except walk the...

I stayed for three nights at the end of March, needing a bit of respite from two months travelling in south India. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful and relaxing setting. The building is beautiful with several courtyards, wonderfully designed to offer lots of quiet corners amid antiques and artefacts, offering shade during the day and quiet reading...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A small garden hotel set in the foothills of India's Western Ghats, Rajakkad offers a sense of serenity and tranquility. Life here has changed very little over the last century. Pallam Palace is the house that sits at the heart of the old Rajakkad plantation. A small garden hotel with 8 unique bedrooms within an 18th century wooden structure that perfectly expresses its rich architectural heritage. For the traveller seeking a world apart or for the explorer in search of adventure, there can be no better setting. As for those in search of peace, look no further. ... more   less
