We were coldly greeted by the owner who told us that the land was taken back by the owner next month. The facilities were rundown and our cabana was not cleaned the next day. Disappointed that we were not informed before booking about the closing of this place. However, our cabana located at Sunset Beach was very spacious with no aircon but very breezy at night time. It felt that we had our own private beach. Well located within 10 mins walk to the main street called Walking Street and 2 mins walk to this must-try little cafe called Kafe Fair which serve delicious juices and home made bread. We were scuba diving early the next day and breakfast was not available at our cabana until 8am so the owner of Kafe Fair opened the cafe earlier for us and prepared home made baguettes to take away - delicious! The food along Sunrise beach (very touristy) was mouth watering but be weary of walking barefoot along the beach as pieces of glasses and rubbish are scattered everywhere. …
We had a few days getaway from Kuala Lumpur where my girlfriend and I are expatriates, and stayed here at Smugglers/Sabye in Koh Lipe. The accommodation was spacious and clean and exactly what you'd want in a beach chalet. The location was perfect, and right on it's own beach which has the most beautiful views of the sunset every evening, which you can enjoy in the lounger chairs sipping on a cocktail or beer! Diving was excellent as well and Barry was a great instructor who helped my slightly nervous other half, who hasn't dived much in the past, enjoy the dive and feel safe. He clearly has a wealth of experience and took us to some beautiful dive sites. I also stupidly left my driving license in the room when I left and Barry was kind enough to post this back to me immediately. We will most certainly be returning to this resort and I'll be recommending this to fellow travellers. Thanks Sabye!!…
So glad we booked this little gem over the Chinese New Year holiday. Sunset beach was the quietest of the 3 beaches but the most scenic and charming. Perfect for sundowners in the evening and a little peace and quiet in the morning. The other beaches are a short walk away if you are looking for more action. Smugglers Hideaway, better known on the island as Sabye Dive, is a dive shop that has 2 lodges. The villa we stayed in was tidy and had everything necessary (drinking water, fans towels, TV) with screens on the windows to keep it cool and keep out any insects. The highlight of the trip was the dive staff and owner, Barry. When we arrived we wanted to do a diving refresher course and since Sabye were all booked up they so kindly made arrangements for us to do it at another dive shop. The following day we did 2 dives with Brendon and Max. Both very experienced and professional which was great since I was a little timid to get back into diving after 8 years away. They took us to two amazing spots (Honey Island?). Such a great experience, beautiful corals and sea life. And finally, I must mention the amazing baked goods. The cinnamon rolls and fresh cookies alone could have kept me on the island. On our way out the owner even personally drove us to the ferry in the morning and stopped to grab us some fresh cookies since we missed breakfast. This was a great spot to relax and enjoy Koh Lipe for a few days. What I liked most is the care and commitment to the island by Sabye. It is evident when a place tries to look after the environment and its sustainability. I would have loved to stay longer! As a side note, the Boom Boom bar next door did play its music until rather late. This is an issue the owner is trying to address. If you are going to Sunset Beach to watch the sunset and have cocktails please support Sabye instead. They have a great view and great drinks.…
First of all, the local people know this place as Sabye Sports instead of Smuggler’s Hideaway Resort. It is a bit far to walk from the Check-in point at the Pattaya beach to the resort, which might take about 15-20 minutes’ walk to reach here. To take a motorcycle cab, it will cost you THB50 per person. Be sure you hold on tight to the handle as some parts of the road are not fully developed. Hence, it could be a bumpy journey. There's some short-cuts from the resort to Sunrise Beach. Not advisable to walk at night or before dawn as there's no light along the road. It is about 10-15 minutes walk. Same duration to walk to the walking street from the resort. We stayed here for 3 days 2 nights at Premium Villa. The room is considered spacious with everything you need except an air-conditioning and hair dryer. The room has more than 30 switch plugs! The owner is very considerate to have insect repellent inside the room as well! Surprisingly, the room is not too hot at day time as it’s built with mostly bamboo & wood and it’s located in the middle of a jungle. The bathroom is fully covered with tiles. There’s spacious balcony too but we preferred to stay at the beach and walk around Koh Lipe. One thing, the room is not sound proof. Hence, you might be disturbed by some noise in the morning because the kitchen is just right beside the room. At night, the air is cooling and you can hear the forest symphony by many types of insects at night and early in the morning. It is good to bring touch light with you if you are a night traveller as the lights around the resort will be switched off totally after 11PM (or maybe earlier). Star gazing is incredibly amazing at the beach (Sunset beach) but be prepared with lots of mosquitoes at the beach to greet you. Lastly, the owner is very helpful to fulfil our requests and ensure we have a comfy stay here.…
We extended our stay to 7 nights after experiencing the resort for two days. The staff are very attentive and friendly making you feel very welcome. The resort is located right on Sunset Beach providing and excellent quiet location to enjoy Koh Lipe from. The other beaches and walking street are 10-15 casual walk on the paved road ways. The resort has all the gear to make your stay fun including, kayaks, dive/snorkel, boards and more. The dive staff are very easy to approach for your needs and their suggestions. Sa and her kitchen staff create hot delicious food in a clean and efficient kitchen while Poom and her staff at the restaurant take care of your every need with a friendly smile. It is a great finish to a full day enjoying the sunset over the beach and water with a cool drink and dinner. The rooms are very spacious and breezy with excellent sitting areas in and out ,TV/DVD, fridge, large bathrooms and more. For travelers seeking a quiet beautiful resort on a fantastic beach this is the place in Koh Lipe.…
