The hotel’s location is by far the best on the island. Only three hotels are privileged to be in this part of the beach nestled between the rocks. It boasts white powdery sand, verdant foliage to shade from sunshine, and easy access to swimming areas with no tail boats in sight. Guests staying at the Serendipity and Ten Moons hotels often come to Kathalee’s part of the beach and sometimes rent a sunbed, which says a lot about the resort’s location and comforts. Serendipity’s beautiful corner is too narrow to accommodate sun loungers, while Ten Moons hotel has some beach chairs, but in a deep and impenetrable tree shade. The Kathalee Resort is more accommodating offering bean chairs, umbrellas, and sunbeds for relaxing sun lounging. The lovely couple that manages the resort made us feel very welcome by providing valuable advice about navigating the island or exploring the underwater realm. Snorkeling off the beach in any tide is possible, though the low tide will give you a better view of coral fish. We easily found the “Nemo” fish (clownfish) with the help of our host who readily shared his insights. The breakfast, though basic, is healthy and sufficient with all usual options covered and freshly brewed coffee to accompany it. And, yes, the resort does have a drip coffee machine. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the walking street in the evenings. If you have enough stamina to brave the slopes, it will take you only 10 minutes to get to the busy part of the island, plus there are some shortcut options. There is no need to dress up on any occasion, flip-flops are the only pair of shoes you’ll need during your stay. The hotel gave us every opportunity to truly enjoy the minimalist and unencumbered lifestyle, beautiful lush nature, and crystal-clear turquoise waters.…
Booked via AGODA from 30th December to 5th January. Run-down condition of bathroom room. Hotel general condition is in poor condition/lacks good maintenance. Breakfast also simple and basic. No one showed how to operate the TV/satellite system or the room safe until I asked after check-in. No demo how to operate either. Foot-bridge to corridor was damaged/rotten on one side posing safety risk to residents. Bathroom wall tiles cracked. What is the use of just 1 deck-chair on the balcony ? There should be minimum of 2. Corridor very dark and the floor-way tiles to entrances right along the entire block to our door are broken and pose a risk to residents safety. During the windy nights the corrugated iron roof sheet was making loud thumping noises like door being loudly shut. Also sounded like fireworks (New Years1). Could not sleep properly for 2 nights! How on earth can AGODA list this place? It is like a "dump" ! This place is poorly managed. After 2 nights there I informed the Management on 1/01/23 am checking out on 2nd and moved into the hotel next door. Asked for refund but management said "noting to do with them, have to contact AGODA". Upon check out there was no documentation/receipt given to show that we checked out earlier than booked despite my asking the management for a receipt. Agoda must get its due diligence act together. How on earth can it list such a poor value hotel? This place is the equivalent of a scam . Just try and see how difficult it really is to contact AGODA with a complaint: it is not at all easy. AGODA you have failed in your due diligence and are obliged to pay refund for the 3 nights i did not stay there. Get your act together !…
The room was not cleaned at all when I checked in. Horrified to find out 2 centipedes in the room and cigarette ash under the bed sheets.. Shortened the stay to 1 night. Another setback was there was a German guy, who was a husband of manager strangely walking around the hotel while he "does not work for the hotel(in his own word)". The manager agreed to refund unstayed nights but being reluctant and unhelpful to move forward the process. Avoid here.
Beautiful sunrise in a beautiful place, with beautiful fishes and beautiful sunshine! What we love most is the unobstructed view of the sea, with no long-tail boats parked there. It's so easy to snorkel all day long. With plenty of fishes and ocean life to see there's no need for island hopping here. Breakfast provided is great too! The local food menu is tasteful as well. Many thanks to Khan, her husband and the friendly staff for the great hospitality and thoughtfulness for my mum, who has difficulty walking. Special thanks to Robe for taking such good care of us! Hope to see more improvement in terms of cleanliness and amenities in the room.
Spent 4 wonderful nights here! Really lovely place with its own little beach with hammocks, lounge chairs, and amazing views! Norbert and his wife were amazingly friendly and helpful hosts, and the room was lovely! Kayaks and snorkel gear were also provided!
This place is located with private beach tucked away from the main beach. The room was very clean and well proportioned with balcony over looking the beach, with a great view of the sunrise. The omelette for breakfast was probably the best I’ve had! Transport provided to the main walking street and taxi was 100 tbh to return. You can walk about 1km to the other end of the beach to catch the sunset. Highly recommended.
Great little hotel on the best stretch of beach in Koh Lipe. The rooms have a decent size, the bathrooms could use a bit of an upgrade, but overall this didn't bother us at all. The staff is really attentive and helpful, after the first day they moved us to the room by the beach, when they noticed we are with kids. The breakfast is quite good, we loved the fresh fruit and pancakes in the morning. The staff really makes a difference . We very much look forward to coming back soon.
The beach is the most beautiful little cove on sunset beach. Its very quiet and peaceful. Room itself very basic, but the matress was just so hard/so were the pillows. We could not sleep for 2 nights. View from balcony nice straight to see the ocean. Omelette at breakfast was really good, but rest really basic and there isnt much there. Staff didnt really speak much English but the manager did, but when she was not there it was hard to communicate. They dont offer anything in the evening, so we went out into walk street. All in all ok, but because of the bed I would not return. PS: read a review about there being an old grumpy German guy and yes, he works there. In one of the responses to a review, the general manager commented that they only have Thai people working at the hotel and no European people which isnt quite true, the European guy who is there seems to help out (and is the GM’s other half) - I can see why people thought of him as grumpy, but because we spoke German to him he was quite nice.…
We had a good time parked at Kathalee which is located at a cosy private corner of Sunrise Beach. There is fish around rock outcrops around the beach area so it's convenient for short snorkeling expeditions throughout the day. The resort has a decent breakfast buffet spread, free use of snorkeling gear and life vests, and free use of kayaks. There's also free pick up to and from the floating platform and also free shuttle to walking street. It's also only 10-15 minutes' walk to walking street. The rooms we stayed in were clean and spacious and provided amenities like air-con, coffee/tea/fridge, etc. It also has ready access to long tail boat taxis and massage services. Staff were also friendly and informative. Most convenient yet quiet location.
we stayed here for 6 nights and checked out today. we have a one year old and the staff all went out of their way to keep her entertained, nothing we asked was too much for the staff. we are in love with koh lipe and will definitely be back. we were in room a8 and it is basic but perfect for a beach break with a baby we were constantly bringing back sand from the beach and the staff only too happy to clean every day. breakfast is basic but enough to get you through to lunch. the protector of the reef does a great job and long may he continue trying to prevent idiots walking on it! if only getting on/off koh lipe was better organised would be perfect the ferry company don’t care about the passengers and cram in more and give no information and expect you to stand around for hours before boarding(not that this is in anyway connected to the hotel!!))…
