We stayed at Mali Sunrise for a few days in the beginning of December 2019. We got picked up by a hotel car after the immigration process and got driven to the resort and check in was fast and we got room C7. When entering, the room was quite big and looked tastefully decorated. The room had a big king-size bed that was quite comfortable to sleep in. There was a big desk and a place for the suitcase and also a wardrobe and a small safe. In the other end of the room there was a lounge area with a nice sofa and table and a flat screen TV on the wall.

The bathroom had light tiles and was standard in the setup with basin, toilet and shower corner. The shower had decent water pressure and had warm water. There were not that many amenities and shower gel/shampoo were kept in larger dispensers. There was a window between the bathroom and the room with blinds if you wanted privacy.

Wifi was included and covered most of the resort. We got a username and password when we checked in and we had to log in quite a lot which was a bit annoying. And the wifi speed was quite variable but I assume this is because it is a tiny island and I’m not sure what the connection is like to the mainland. There was both aircon and fan in the room that worked well. There were quite a lot of sockets for charging electronic equipment and there were even USB sockets by the bedside table.

The room was facing the pool area and had a small terrace with a couple of chairs. The pool area was well planned with walking paths, sun beds and a huge pool! The only thing that I was missing were showers so that people could clean up a bit before jumping into the pool. The resort stretched all the way to Sunrise beach and on the beach itself, there was a deck that was both the bar and the restaurant/breakfast area. Breakfast was by menu which makes sense, but the menu was a bit boring. I had the omelet, which was good, but I would have enjoyed to see a better fruit platter. It only included pineapple and watermelon – there are so many other good fruits in Thailand that could have been served. Tea, coffee and water was available all day for free at the restaurant. It was also possible to buy drinks to have by the pool and the drinks were reasonably priced and the same applies for the food options.

The resort is located at the end of the Sunrise beach but as the island is quite small, it only takes 5-10 minutes to walk to the Walking street of Koh Lipe. There are small restaurants and convenience stores near the hotel. The area of the hotel that faces the road is not that great – it would give a better first impression if this area was cleaned up a bit.

Conclusion: I’m impressed that it is possible to have such a beautiful resort with such a huge pool on a tiny island like Koh Lipe. Sure, there are things that can be improved at the hotel but in general the room was great, the pool area beautiful, the service great and location very good. If you are looking for a nice resort to spend a few days on Koh Lipe, you should absolutely consider staying at Mali Sunrise.

We stayed for 10 days in this place in a Bali style bungalow. The resort is beautifully situated on the Beach, which is very narrow right there. However, it was disapointing to see how many longtail boats were on the Beach making the swim in the sea a bit risky from time to time. You could smell the diesel in the air ever so often from the long tails motors. Also the Beach needed a thorough cleanup for old Wood, iron pipes and old trash. several of the sunbeds had rusty screws making it dangerous to raise and lower the back risking to get poked in the fingers. Many times there was no water to rinse the feet coming from the Beach going on to the deck by the restaurant, which made the deck full og sand, and no one swept the floor ever. The beds in the rooms are really good, and there is lots of Space i the cubboard and the deskdrawers. The cleaning of the rooms was not very good. The same greasy spots on the mirrors from we came to we left. We had to ask for clean towels, and to make them change the bed sheets after 7 Nights as well as ask them to clean the sink and table in the bathroom. We had cockroaches in the room, and the staff immediately sprayed all over leaving the floor greasy and smally, but it helped. The curtains in the room were in some Places broken letting sunlight into the room in the morning. The hotel has a set quite simple breakfastmenu, which becomes boring after a week. The coffe was good, and was free all day as well as the icewater. The hotel has the most fantastic staff especially at the restaurant. All over a nice place, but the hotel lacks the finishing touch to appear very good and well kept

Me and my family just spend 8 days at this hotel, Very spacious rooms for 4 adults. Clean rooms and a nice welcome when we arrived. All rooms surounding the pool and the breakfast/lunch area is right at the beach. Very nice staff. Breakfast a litlle dull and not much to choose from. In front of restaurant area is sunchairs right at the beach. This is a beautiful spot right at the nices part of Koh lipe beach very cloose the best snorkling on the Island and very cloose to the nicest restaurant on the Island, Serendipity. We really enjoyed our stay. Only reason it doesent get 5 star from me is the seroundings of the hotel. You had to hide your face in something when you left the hotel to go out on the backside. Extremely stinky and Dirty area right outside the hotel. Like a garbagepit that smelled horrible. This is I know a problem all over the Island and is not to blame this hotel maybe but still they should do something to clean or cover it up more. On the hotel area, pool area and beacharea you will not be affected of this. Very nice hotel, nice pool, beautiful garden and nice lounges at the beach front where you can hang out You never had to fight for seats and there was always a sundbed free. I loved this place and will defenately come back,

I have planned a 10 days trip throughout Malaysia in January 2020. Although some bad weather was kind of expected due to the rain season in SE Asia, I just couldn't settle and see myself stranded and frustrated inside hotel rooms. So that's when I had the idea to escape the monsoon blues and bought a ticket to Langkawi in northwestern coast of Malaysia and from there took the scary but safe ferry into Ko Lipe. And it saved my entire trip not just for being one the less visited islands in the awfully crowded Thailand, but maybe one of the last gems with such very clean beaches, good hospitality and somehow, visited by a more select public with greater awareness of preservation and sustainability.Last but not the least, my experience at Mali Sunrise was great, specially for having my toes in the sand all of the time. Maybe a lit bit overpriced compared to other options but it was worth enough to make my stay perfect afterall.

Stayed a couple of nights in the hotel section and while the room itself was great it backed onto a swamp that stank of sewerage. Every time we left the room it smelt like someone had defacated themselves.

We also spent a night in a Villa. These are great. Unfortunately our stay and sleep was ruined by some large boisterous guests in the neighbouring villas who partied to 3am. The resort was entirely devoid of staff at 10pm to address the issue. Supposedly there is meant to be someone there.

We enjoyed our stay at the Mali resort very much. The staff was friendly and helpful, rooms clean and spacious, very nice pool area but we didn’t get to enjoy that too much because the beach area was also perfect. We stayed at the Sunrise beach and as we walked though the whole beach we know that this hotel is at a very good location of beach. Snorkeling just from the beach. Would really recommend it to families with small children since the whole territory is very child friendly.

The rooms neede better cleaning and the resort as a whole lacked the finishing touch in order to appear fantastic. However, the staff is incredible and will help you anytime with recommendations, things to do, where to god and make sure to meet your requirements. Too much traffic from longtail boats on the very narrow Beach in front of the hotel leaving the air smell of diesel. You have to swim between the boats. A lot of old trash like tree roots, old Water pipes etc on the Beach in fromt os the hotel. The set breakfast menu gets a bit boring after e week.

The resort located on the sunrise beach that is a very beautiful and peaceful place. The walking street is not far away, about 5 minutes walk you’ll find many kinds of foods. I stayed in a villa with garden view that is near the beach. If you prefer a pool, please choose suite room or villa with pool view which are distant from the beach. The room is large and comfortable, except for the bed that is too soft. I appreciated the 3 Thai staffs (2 gentlemen and a lady) at the beach front restaurant, they always pay attention to serve everyone and kindly inform about everything we asked, thank you so much. But not for the front desk ladies that didn’t do their best. One thing that I’d like to suggest is that the beach front bar should be opened late to the night (now open til 6pm). By the way, I and my family are very happy to be here for 3 nights. I’m sure to stay here again for my next trip to Koh Lipe.

We stayed at Mali sunrise for 4 nights and had a very mixed experience.

First off I’d say this hotel is overpriced compared to the quality and the other hotels on sunrise beach.

The positives are the location and most of the staff.

One of the main reasons we booked Mali was how good the pool and surrounding area looked. Unfortunately the pictures are not reality. The pool is very murky and had about 2 feet of water missing meaning it was only waist deep. The pool area is not kept clean, we saw dirty cups and towels left for the entire day. The pool bar was empty and not in use which was a real shame even though we stayed in peak season.

The room never felt that clean and the lack of windows / ventilation in the huge bathroom meant it was like a sauna. The bathroom smelt really bad, we understand that this can be common in Thailand but this was the worst we’ve experienced.

The breakfast was also a little disappointing for us, we ended up going to other hotels for breakfast most mornings.

I personally think this hotel has SOO much potential but really misses the mark.

With this current terrible time affecting us all, it has been so refreshing to spend a few nights relaxing at this super resort. Located right on the beach and with a stunning free flow pool at it’s center, the Mail Sunrise cannot fail to impress. Friendly and attentive staff, very well appointed rooms with very comfortable beds to flop into, this resort is a great choice for families and couple alike.
Highly recommended.

There is no buffet :) I am no expert in Halal, but many dishes are vegan or can be vegan. It was really good! Loved all the dishes. All you can eat, but you order it. Less waste, always hot and well prepared.
