If you look for a unique and particularly pleasant place to stay not far from Caen / Thury-Harcourt / Falaise, don't miss Catherine Germain's Les Fontaines in Barbery. It's a charming 18th/19th-century family house, actually a manor, with a large garden (stay for breakfast to enjoy home-grown vegetables, fruits and eggs), original furniture, fine objects of art, tastefully decorated guest...

We have just returned from one of the very best holidays we have ever had. Unusually we chose to stay for two weeks and did not regret our decision for one moment. Set in the most peaceful setting in a small village Les Fontaines proved to be the ideal choice for some proper exploration of Normandy. Plenty to visit and...

Stayed here for two nights in August. The weather was awful, damp and cold but the experience of Les Fontaines cheered us no end. Our host, Andrew, proved both nonchalant and humourous in providing both excellent and generous (5 course) dinners and breakfasts. Evening meals were taken with all the guests at one large dining table which enabled good conversation...

In particular, breakfast surpassed all our expectations (especially so since we have quite a bit of experience with French petit déjeuners). We also had...

We stayed at Les Fontaine for three nights and loved every minute. The location is near Caen and central to just about everything you want to do while in Normandy. The house and gardens are beautiful and the hosts were great. Andrew is an excellent cook and quite a character. When we visited they were in the process of selling...

Les Fontaines is located in the lovely town of Barbery, a 15 minute drive south of Caen. The property has a lovely garden, chestnut trees, and a charming country house. Andrew, our gracious and humourist host, is a transplanted Brit who's been living in France for the past 16 years. We stayed in a huge room with lovely antique furniture...
