Just returned from a lovely break in this hotel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms and the hotel are both clean and tidy. We ate in the restaurant and the food was good quality and plentiful. (not a massive selection though). The property could do with a 'face-lift' as it is rather dated. We hope to return...

I spoke to a member of this hotels reception staff one week prior to my intended visit. I gave him the groupon details and he took my booking. My husband and I travelled up the next weekend only to be turned away saying there was no booking! Our booking included a 3 course evening meal and breakfast. We were not...

My wife booked a room, meal and breakfast as a surprise, and we really enjoyed our stay. My wife had seen the building many times as a child, and had always wanted to stay, so it proved nostalgic too. The room was super, the meal we ate was very good, very well cooked and very tasty, all washed down with...

The reviews were a real mixed bag but please just go with an open mind and accept that not everything will be perfect. It is the charm and quirkiness off the building that makes it such a nice place. The room we stayed in was lovely - really warm, slopey floor and wooden beams. The history of the building is...

The staff were all smiling and helpful as someone who is not confident it's nice when people are friendly. Room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was freshly prepared. I could not fault my four night stay

We had a night booked here for 1 night but only lasted 2 hours! First impressions were good from the outside, once inside we found an empty reception with a phone continually ringing, eventually a member of staff arrived and we were checked in. Our room was musty and damp, filthy un cleaned bathroom complete with hairs and mould. The...

We have been staying at this hotel on and off for over 20years and on our last visit it has really gone down, the restaurant was lovely but now you eat in the bar except for breakfast, the rooms are so tired the place really needs a facelift it is such a shame as it used to be such a...

Ate lunch here on a quiet Monday. Polite, friendly staff member on hand to serve when required. We had sandwiches - typical pub fayre, nothing fancy, with side order of delicious chunky chips. Eating lunch surrounded by a building bulging with history was pleasant and I can see how the upkeep of this beautiful place must be a challenge. Would...

The Hotel is old dating back I believe to the 17th century, and was at that time a coaching inn. The floors slope in parts, but in general the building is fine. Beware however because of its age there is no lift to take you to the third floor. Arrival was fine and reception were very polite and friendly. The...

Having booked this break before reading the reviews, I was not totally looking forward to the experience. However, even though our room in the outside block was quite basic, everything worked and was acceptable. The lady in Reception was very friendly and helpful and the food was lovely (dinner and breakfast) I do think that there should be an outside...
